Minnesota 95.7/Duluth shifts from AC to Adult CHR

Imaging is highlighting “Today’s Best Music” (a nice callback to former Duluth CHR 102.5 KZIO), “the new sound of My 95.7” and “the all new My 95.7.” Music shares similarities with Green Bay sister station WIXX. The voiceover guy seems to be the same voice that was used on former Duluth CHR 102.5 KDWZ. Looking back at the music logs online, it appears this took place on 9/15.

95.7/Duluth sample music log from Sun. 9/14/25 (AC format):
20:53 ALEX WARREN - Ordinary
20:56 FLEETWOOD MAC - Go Your Own Way
20:59 TRAIN - Drops Of Jupiter
21:05 GOTYE - Somebody That I Used To Know
21:09 JUSTIN BIEBER - Daisies
21:12 JOHN MELLENCAMP - Small Town
21:21 ED SHEERAN - Bad Habits
21:25 MICHAEL BUBLE - Haven't Met You Yet

95.7/Duluth sample music log from Mon. 10/1/25 (Adult CHR format):
01:59 GOOD CHARLOTTE - The Anthem
02:02 PAPA ROACH - Leave A Light On
02:05 LEON THOMAS - Mutt
02:08 JAY SEAN - Down
02:12 PITBULL - I Feel Good
02:14 MORGAN WALLEN - What I Want
02:17 LEWIS CAPALDI - Forget Me
02:21 MARSHMELLO & JELLY ROLL - Holy Water

Despite many FM signals in the Duluth-Superior market, this leaves no AC station. Few markets have no AC station. KDAL-FM joins 970/98.1 WDUL in the Hot AC - Adult CHR format.

This is odd that KDAL-FM couldn't make AC work. AC is the top format in NYC (WLTW), Houston (KODA) and Boston (WMJX), as well as the top music format in San Francisco (KOIT). I don't think KDAL-FM went all-Christmas in the past as most AC stations. But now it certainly won't do that in a few weeks.

I suspect most middle aged women in Duluth listen to country, classic hits or classic rock. It doesn't strike me as a secular AC sorta town. Life 97.3 perhaps also made life difficult (pun intended) for 95.7.

Duluth/Superior is a strange market. Due to its location straddling two states, it gets public radio service from both Minnesota (MPR) and Wisconsin (WPR), duplicating news/talk and classical services from both. There's also a locally-originated eclectic AAA non-com (owned by the local PBS television station, as somewhat of a rival to MPR's The Current, which is well-represented in the market). There's also six(!!) different religious stations.

On the commercial side, there are currently three different country stations, two classic rockers, and three stations running some form of Hot AC or CHR. And two sports stations, one covering Minnesota (via the KFAN network) and the other Wisconsin-centric.

So, lots of depth, but little variety.
