95.7 History

Did Bill Tanner leave Y-100 for a short time to do mornings at Kicks (maybe another Y-100 announcer?). I remember both stations running a similar. playlist.

I remember when they announced when the 15 minute version of "Rappers Delight" would air.

Jon Pinch was the GM during the entire time I was there. Studios off Drew Street, Clearwater.. in the office complex where the Quick Red Fox lounge was located..may fine hours spent there..

John Lander was the PD during much of the 96KIX days. Lannigan was there during (Scott Robbins as PD) Magic 96, and I did mornings when it became W-Lite 95.7

It was owned by Metroplex..same owners as Y100.

At one point some of Tanner's Y100 staff was brought up to 95.7. During my tenure there (off and on) Jim Johnson was GM and then Jon Pinch. Johnny V and Fast Bobby came up from Y100 at some point. In fact, the air board at WHBO (across the hall and a little farther from The Quick Red Fox) to my understanding came from Y100. Many really talented people passed through that station.

Jeff..prior to Metroplex moving into the Belcher Plaza...WAZE's offices were there. Spent many a happy hour in the Quick Red Fox with Marcocci.

When was it "W-Lite 95.7"? I thought it went right from "Magic 96" to "Lite Rock 95.7" in '85. Although during the "Lite Rock 95.7" days, I remember the legal ID, rushed between spots, said "WNLT Clearwater, W-Lite" and I never understood why. Was there a brief "W-Lite" period that came before "Lite Rock"?

Was a brief period of time when it was "The NEW FM 96"

WNLT "95.7 W-Lite" was 1988. Then "Lite Rock 95.7". Then "Mix 96" as WMTX.

When Al Casey came on as PD..he debuted the new "W-Lite 95.7, lite rock..less talk" logo. Scott Robbins said it looked like it had been painted "using toothpaste". Al forbid our use of headphones. That killed me! He put a small RadioShack cue speaker with mix minus the mic channel that we could use to hear the ending of the songs..there were to be no talkovers. And Mr Casey put a strip of blue tape over the meters. When the needle started dropping below that tape mark..it was okay to talk. He had been at KSLQ, WMYQ, with Bartell, and quite a few others..so everyone figured he had the "touch" but in the end it didn't work, and on his tribute page..it never lists WNLT as one of his stops. He passed in 2004. Nice fellow, but everyone thought he was a little "weird". His wife was sweet..but Al referred to her as "Happy Kitty". Nobody ever knew her real name...

He did have a cool car, however

Frank. I remember him driving that traded out gold colored Chrysler LeBaron. Lannigan drove it after Jon Pinch was done with it..then Al got it...all the "custom wire wheel style" hubcaps fell off..and it caught fire and somebody pulled the tags off it, and it sat in the "Executive center" lot for several months..Dayton Andrews came and picked it up

Sounds as though the key word there was "traded out".
