95.7 Jamz' signal & still stagnant playlist

Maybe to my surprise, 95.7 Jamz has moved to their new tower upon Red Mountain. I have to admit their signal is now crystal clear in most of the Greater Birmingham area. However, on my way towards east Alabama this holiday weekend, the signal simply faded out right around Lincoln, and I heard 95.5 WFFN out of Anniston. So I know that some things don't change with this station's signal. What a shame

On the other hand, Jamz still hasn't improved their stagnant playlist here's a sample of their playlist from 3-5pm today:

Grind With Me - Pretty Ricky
Don't Cha - Tori Alamaze/Pussycat Dolls
Must be Nice - Lyfe Jennings
1,2,Step - Ciara/Missy Elliot
Get Down Like a Pimp - David Banner/Lil' Flip
The Way You Move - Outkast
Lovers and Friends - Lil' John/Usher/Ludacris
1 Call Away - Chingy
Just a Lil' Bit - 50 Cent
Truth Is - Fantasia
Oh - Ciara/Ludacris
Dem Boyz - Boyz in Da Hood
Georgia Peach - Rasheeda
And Then What - Young Jeezy/Mannie Fresh
Must Be Nice - Lyfe Jennings
We Belong Together - Mariah Carey
Get Ur Roll On - Big Tymers
Slow Down - Bobby Valentino
So Icy - Gucci Mane
I Need Some Dubbs - Master P/Lil' Romeo
Let Me Love You - Mario

It's sad when you replay the same song ("Must Be Nice") twice within an hour's time. Also, there are very few currents and mostly re-currents that weren't hits. Hopefully, OM Vern Catron will fix this station's playlist before the rest of the market that couldn't hear the station before finds out how much it sucks, but I am not counting on it.

Just posing a question as Devil's Advocate - please don't take offense: How many listeners honestly pay full attention for two hours (besides you). Aren't most people in their cars or at work and paying attention to something else? I don't listen to 95.7, I don't care for rap and wouldn't know what the good songs were if I heard it and yes, the same song within in an hour is not smart but it is just one song, could it have been a request? It's my understanding, and I could be wrong but this what I noticed in the books, the average person doesn't really listen that long.

That is 95.5 WHMA, jaleo. WFFN is in Coaling on the other side of the metro area. I'm just glad I can get it in St. Clair County now.

So I know that some

That can't change because the FCC saw fit to allocate 2 95.5's (actually 3, if WFMH-formerly Cullman/now Hackleburg counts) near a 95.7.

No other Birmingham station has its signal trod on in this manner. I'm surprised they've never flipped it w/ 106.9 or 97.3, honestly. I don't see how having your top station on the worst signal makes sense.

It does seem like a little research is necessary there. Of course, with no real competition, they don't have to do any, do they? :)

Well, the average listener's listening time is suppose to be a 2 hour period (1/2 a daypart) according to Arbitron, so that my reasoning of posting that length of time. Another thing is this isn't the 1st time or only time it has happened with Jamz. They played both Bobby Valentino's "Slow Down" and "Must be Nice" within the same hour last week, and neither times were the songs a request. It just show how limited their playlist is and is in serious need of variety that could consist of hip-hop, R&B, and/or even contemporary gospel songs. <P ID="signature">______________

If Jamz has thier new tower up and going, shouldn't WFMH be off the air, in Cullman anyway. They're still going here with all the Real Country you can stand.

I thought WFMH had already moved before WFFN came back on the air. Jamz definitely has, because I hadn't been able to get it at all ever since WHMA moved in to Hobson City/Anniston until this weekend. Now it comes in fine.

Is WFFN on the air at 95.3?

It's not unusual to hear the same artist twice in the same hour. This happens a lot on urban and CHR.

No, it's not unusual to hear 2 songs from the same artist in one hour, but the same exact song from that artist is WAY too tight of a rotation. I'm glad to hear that they are broadcasting from their CP now. They will come in better in Birmingham, but I totally agree with the previous post. It makes NO SENSE to put your best station on the worst signal. I know there have been rumors that Jamz will move to 106.9, but so far it hasen't come true. Maybe now that 95.7 has moved to their CP, we will see a flip. I guess we will find out. Jamz now only puts distant coverage in Tuscaloosa. Flipping to 106.9 would give them city grade there again too.
