95.7 Lafayette

Well for those expecting the return of Adult Contemporary or Talk to the Lafayette airwaves, you're going to be disappointed.

95.7 The Rocket returned after nearly two months of Christmas music early this morning, but this time as an Active Rock station.

Naw. If you listen long enough, the station never really states a genre. I'm guessing they sorta returned The Rocket to it's roots before flipping it January 1st to what I still believe will be FM-Talk. An article in the Lafayette paper a few months ago said that the flip would occur on the 1st.

If they stick with Active Rock, I think the product so far sounds great! Far better than the X in Indy.

I was listening to the Coach Painter Show earlier and noticed that at the end of the show Dio's "Holy Diver" faded in right smack dab in the middle of the song. That seemed odd and made me start wondering if they're on the bird.

I like the music, though. I just wish the imaging was more in-your-face like most stations of the same ilk, but that's a personal preference.

The music sounds good, possibly even better than the X. But I agree with you Apollo, the imaging could be a bit edgier for a station that leans Modern Rock! The male voiceover sounds like something you'd hear on a Classic Rock station, and I think it may still be the same guy they used when the station was spinning the classics. IMO, and of course I'm bias due to my screenname, but I would have changed the name of the station to something like 95-7 Boiler FM. The logo could've had a locomotive look with gold and black colors and the imaging could've used train crossing SFX. Would have really appealed to the student crowd, plus Purdue Sports is heard on the station. Just my $.02.
