95.7 moving to Sharonville?

A few posts ago I was reading that Cox is proposing to downgrade WHIO-FM 95.7 Piqua to a Class A FM licensed to Sharonville. Has anyone else heard of this?

Also, concerning the Cox buys, I would see Cox going after WGTZ in Dayton and WDJX in Louisville. That would add a nice set of heritage stations to the Cox stable.

Confirmed at the FCC database. With corresponding move of WZLR to a tower site south of Fairfield Commons.

Either could be picked up by

RADIO ONE - Smooth Jazz 95.7

CUMULUS - Smooth Jazz 95.7

BRADEN - Rebel Country 95.7

BONNEVILLE - Pete FM 95.7

or even

FIRST BROADCASTING - Max FM 95.7/97.7/99.7

I think they ought to bring back Tantrum 95.7.

Hmm...that might explain why they dumped the Point format and went with the 1290 simulcast??? If the signal does move to Sharonville, Smooth Jazz would be a good fit. Can't think of any additional viable format holes. Country and Rock are quite covered, Top 40, AC, Hot AC, Urban, Urban AC, Religion, Talk, Sports...all covered.

So, will Cox sell the license to First Broadcasting and then place the "Max" format on 95.7 or leave on 97.7/99.5 and go with something else?
Speaking of FB, what's the holdup of 97.7's much anticipated move to Mason? Still waiting on the KY. move from Georgetown?
Much to speculte here!

I am hearing a lot of good things about WHIO being on both FM and AM. A lot of listeners like it on FM. I don't think they should touch it. Cox should go after Z93 and/or flip 95.3 because I think they suck big time. WTUE takes up most of the city as is. I'd like to see Movin' come in.

First Broadcasting is intending a purchase from CXR Sharonville as soon as the move is complete. For a temporary amount of time, WHIO-FM will air a simulcast of 95.3 in Xenia until the sale is complete. This will not occur until the move is complete due to market restrictions. (this is what I heard today)

Upon some digging around I heard that First Broadcasting plans on trimulcasting the MAX FM signal on
95.7 SHARONVILLE/97.7 MASON/99.7 RIPLEY to better serve the greater Cincinnati area. They are also on the hunt to purchase yet another signal to relay the station near NKY-Cincinnati Airport and the western suburbs.

Cox will then move 95.7 closer into the Dayton Metro area near Beavercreek while still holding Xenia as its COL.

I did hear that there is an intended swap with Radio One yet im not sure when or how it will all work out. Someone told me today that they plan on swapping out the 95.7 frequency with that of 92.1. This will allow them to have greater coverage of the downtown Dayton area. Cox will then assume that of 92.9 WGTZ. WHIO-AM will be simulcast on 92.1 WHIO-FM.

Then whoever purchases Clear Channel of Daytons (2 over limit signals) will swap 102.9 for that of rumored 94.5. While im still not sure why Radio One would want to downgrade to Dayton signals, it would allow them to have better coverage of the downtown area. Cox would also protect WGTZ in the transaction requiring HOT 94.5 to lean more Urban based programming than current.

Radio One would also divest the signal at 101.7 as it doesnt fit the companies overall strategy. The company that does pick up 106.5 would then divest it for 101.7 as well. This would create the SPRINGFIELD group that owns two signals in the far eastern reaches of the metro.

If this plays out...and it makes sense....

RADIO ONE would end up with

1410 WING - GOSPEL
94.5 WDHT - URBAN
95.7 WROU - URBAN AC
106.5 WDSJ - SMOOTH JAZZ

COX RADIO would have

1290 WHIO - NEWS/TALK
92.1 WHIO - NEWS/TALK
92.9 WGTZ - ADULT CHR
99.1 WHKO - COUNTRY

CLEAR CHANNEL would have

980 WONE - SPORTS
99.9 WLQT - ADULT CONTEMPORARY
107.7 WMMX - HOT ADULT CONTEMPORARY
103.9 WXEG - ACTIVE ROCK
104.7 WTUE - CLASSIC ROCK

SPRINGFIELD RADIO?

1340 WIZE - ?
101.7 WKSW - ?
102.9 W??? - ?

Wait - do you mean 95.3 here? I have heard 95.3 is planning a move close to Fairfield Commons. So would this be the new WROU (95.3) with WHIO moving to 92.1?

I'm a little confused. Don't you mean the CXR station currently on 95.3 will move closer to Dayton (Beavercreek) from Xenia?
Looking at the FCC service contour map of 95.7 in Sharonville (proposed) I can't see another on on the same frequency in Dayton - less than 30+ miles apart.
Just checking....

First Broadcasting trimulcasting in the Cincinnati metro @ 95.7 (Sharonville) 97.7 (Mason), 99.5 (Ripley) - and possibly adding a fourth for just one format (Max FM)?
Seems a waste....unless part of a grander plan...sell 'em as separate properties in the long term - make some cash, etc.

That actually looks like a good plan. Making 945 Rhythmic/Urban. I've noticed a change in their playlist as well to SUPER CHR/Rhythmic. I hope this happens ASAP.

I'm not buying the inside information on this board. Here's why: This, supposedly, inside information states that Cox will sell 95.7 to First Broadcasting and will also swap it to Radio One for 92.1 and 92.9 in Dayton. How can they trade it to two buyers? I'm not following that logic.

Thanks for the correction! Sorry, the signals are just too close.

Cox would move 95.3 to just behind Fairfield Commons. Rumor has it that Cox wants to pick up WDKF from Clear Channel. However to do this, they would have to divest of one station in the market (being 95.7). Once it is picked up, overnight, it becomes a member of the Radio One Family for a trade out of WGTZ. Radio One would then purchase existing 106.5 from Clear Channel and sell of 101.7 and 102.9.

In the end, Radio One would make a little cash to pay down the debt. This would allow them to focus on the urban centric station such as the case in Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland and even Cincinnati.

There is also a similar deal going on in nearby Louisville with Radio One, Cox and Cumulus.

MAX FM will be trimulcasted....they are infamous for this exact thing. I dont know if you read about this or not, but it looks like First Broadcasting is here to stay for a little while longer than expected.

Radio One will get what it wants, Cox will get what they want and CC will be free of those two FM's holding them up in the Dayton market. If that doesnt make sense...well then I dont know what does.

Of course...Clear Channel would love to get WXEG a bigger signal (or atleast one would assume). Maybe they will then purchase 102.9 from Radio One and dump 103.9 to another player in Dayton/Springfield. But hey, who am I to assume something like that...it just wouldnt make sense.

The Radio One MO doesnt call for non urbanized programming unless if there is significant cash flow in return. Remember, Blue Chip was stuck with that station when the huge Dayton flip flop happened the first time around. Same with WDJX in Louisville. Cox wants those two properties....

In Louisville. WLRS Simulcast will prolly get turned into a Cumulus property along with WPTI from Cox and WTFX from Clear Channel. Then Cox will assume WDJX and WXMA.

Just my two cents. Bigger deals have happened before. Its not unnatural in this business

Channel 94-5 has improved their signal as well....I know it is not 50k, but they come in much better southward into Butler and Warren counties than they used to.

They do come in better. I was at my dad's job almost in Cincinnati and it came in good. I was surprised! Going to places like Columbus, it goes out faster but I am glad for this. I am able to pick it up downtown better as well. When they do flip to Urban, I wonder just how much Radio One will make it boring unlike how it is now.

It would be funny if they brought "The Beat" back.
