95.7 The Game, Constant Commercials Bashing KNBR

I think it's well deserved. The Fact KNBR ignores the East Bay other than the Warriors makes it deserved. I don't care if it's the Giants flagship station, they should still show some respect to the Raiders & A's. It's ridiculous. The fact that every single morning we have to discuss the Giants non stop makes them not listenable. It's football season , yet we hear non stop Giants talk during Mac & Murphs show? Horrible. Damon Bruce is the Only guy over there who is willing to talk about something other than the damn Giants.

KNBR has the Giants. To me, that's all that matters. I couldn't care less about any other sports. I have KNBR on right this minute and it's on a Giants game.

I listen to and really admire KNBR, yet it's always puzzled me how they (hosts) have all but ignored the A's. I'm sure there are discussions that I've missed, and there must be counterexamples that someone can trot out. But at times, it's as though the stations treats the A's as though they're a team in some neighboring city outside the station's listening area (which is not small). Granted, the Giants won it all last year and have deserved to be in the spotlight the last couple of years, recent performance notwithstanding. But before 95.7 appeared on the scene, I thought KNBR was sort of setting themselves up for a competitor other than KTRB to enter the market, which puzzled me. Especially considering their imaging and slogan as "the sports leader" and on-air claims of being the number one sports station in America.

Is there some strategic reason for this that we're all missing? (What would Lee Hammer say?)

I suspect WFAN in New York City would strongly dispute that claim.

Isn't WFAN the frequency that used to be W-ennnnnnnnnn-B-C?

I noticed that 95.7 The Game ran lots of commercials during the 49er game last week. Maybe they did during the Raiders game. But to be bashing KNBR for talking Giants, The Game is the home of The Oakland Athletics. Yet when I have sampled The Game, they are talking about ... the Giants!!!

95.7 will do well not to focus on the competition and create their own mark in the Bay Area. Why waste time giving your comp. any publicity? Know what you do and do it well!!!

Well, you have the tools on this website to check the ratings yourself. WFAN pulls a 2.9 share and KNBR pulls a 4.3 share. There are times when KNBR's cume approaches WFAN's cume. Go look for yourself.

Howard Stern made a big to-do about being forced to say W-ennnnnnnnnn-B-C, but it was for good reason at the time. The leader was WABC and NBC obviously wanted to make the callsign very clear that it was N and not A. The ploy worked, obviously, because over a decade after the movie "Private Parts", you STILL remember the NNNNN.

This is what I don't get when I hear East Bay fans complain about KNBR "never talking about the A's or Raiders." Let's see, the 49ers have the gold standard for success the last 30 years among Bay area franchises and the Giants are coming off a World Series year. The Raiders left once and may be putting a respectable product on the field for the first time in about 10 years, while the A's are making eyes at San Jose. I'll leave the Warriors and Sharks out of the convo since they're the only game in town for NBA and hockey.

Sooooo ... what do you think fans want to talk about more? I think one can make as much a case for reflecting the realities of the market as much as being an infomercial for the teams they carry.

The "Oakland Raiders" moved to LA and failed, and then came back here as simply the "Raiders" (note that there is no "Oakland" on their logo since they came back. That's spitting in the face of Oaklanders. The Athletics are a low-budget team with a smaller market than the Giants. (This is what the restrictions are about regarding an A's move to San Jose -- it's in the Giants market, so MLB won't allow it.)

Meanwhile, the Giants have won 8 games in a row, are former World Series champs, and the 49ers are the perennial big-time team, a team that hasn't turned its back on San Francisco (yet, anyway).

So, talkradio is going to talk Giants and 49ers, not Athletics and Raiders.

Well, of course they're going to promote the Giants most of the time. They are part owners of the team. 95.7 should be a great alternative if they're going to promote the teams KNBR disses, like the A's ( who deserve dissing, with Wolff in charge) and the Raiders ( why didn't they go after the Raiders, for crying out loud?). The Giants did win the World Series last year. Where have the A's been, besides peddling away any GOOD players?

If the A's mattered to people, they would have better attendance. They at the bottom of MLB attendance If the Raiders would win, someone would want them on the air, but still there are many empty seats.
Giants & 49ers for better or worse are the 2 teams that gather the most interest. 95.7 has a big hill to climb vs. KNBR. 95.7 has put a lot into a large lineup of hosts but 680 has better local connections. A's & Sharks are no help.
Will the owner have patience with certain low ratings for the next few years? That is the big unknown.
