95-7 The Party

I'm trying to find a recent discussion on their evolution to mainstream CHR but can't find anything. I wonder why they still kept the Party name and didn't go back to Kiss FM. What a disappointment that rhythmic AC didn't work out. I really didn't even notice the Movin' stations changed directions in their music until I researched further.

Let me ask you this question:

If you owned a station that had pervious call letter that didn't do so hot, and you changed formats and call letters numerous times but those formats and call letters didn;t work. So you tried something else like what they have done. Would you go back to the actuall call letters that made the station fail in the first place?

That is why CC didn't go back to KISS FM, it didn't work for them at all, so why would they call themselves 95.7 kISS FM when that format and call letters failed for them? It wouldn't be a smart business move at all.

Is that the real reason why the station didn't work out? I tend to think it's the format for the most part not really the name. It's back to CHR so how can the name matter that much?

WIll considering that the format didn't work and they didn;t keep the name KISS FM at all after going to another format. If it was so successfull as you might think it would be, then how come they didn't choose to go back to it but chose the name THE PARTY? I actually think this name is doing alot better then KISS is doing, but then again they didn't do to well as i recall on KISS one bit.

It was the format that failed. KS1075 owns the top 40 image in Denver and CC tried to take a slice of that pie and failed. "KISS" is just a name but also a brand for CC. "The Party" is also a brand but with a different format targeted older. To make the format change they had to change brand imaging so the association with what failed is purged. It appears The Party does fairly well and probably cash flows enough to keep the suits happy and is an alternative to KS not competing head to head for the same audience.

Those were the best days of my life - back when we had a party station here in Arizona!

Anyway, speaking of Movin, I'd say the best Movin is in San Fransisco, and of course I love them because they are taking in former things that WiLD 94.9 used to do when WiLD was a party station. Movin used to be Rhythmic Ac, but switched to chr and seems to be doing better that way. However, they still do house nation and carry the new Club 99.7 show on the weekends, so they still have that party style to them. The dj's also mix the music "party style", mixing today's modern hits the way they used to do back in the day with the old school bass, house, and freestyle. I'm not sure what Denver's party station is like, but if they are truly living up to that name, then I'm guessing it must be a fun and interesting rhythmic to listen to, especially with the direction the rhythmic hit music sound has gone these days.

Not to mention, KISS FM usually is Mainstream CHR. They are rhythmic. The Party is still a good name and the music is programmed well, too bad RHY/AC didn't work out, but I'm sure they'll do fine competing against KS.

What I noticed though is that Salt Lake City's MOViN left the CHR format and went back to Rhythmic AC. Yes, they still are very current heavy but they definitely have the 80s and 90s gold back in. They must have realized the women are what was working for them. Not the kids.

I can't believe I actually agree with WRIKER on something! While the brand itself may not have caused the failure of 95.7 Kiss FM, it certainly didn't help the station one bit. So, why would you bring it back if it didn't help? If there are any negative perceptions of the previous brand, you'll bring them back by re-using the name. It's the same reason you've never seen the return of brands like Y-108, KAZY, KXLT, The Hawk, The Peak, Mega, KBRQ, and Big Dog. By the time they went away, there was nothing to gain by using those brands and everything to lose.

The brands that endure, like KIMN, get picked up. It was picked up quickly by a Ft. Collins station, and 100.3 picked it up when it flipped from AC to 70's gold rather than the hot AC format is currently runs. Since the 70's were KIMN's heyday and many people never forgave Jefferson Pilot for pulling the plug on KIMN 950, the theory was that the brand would conjure up positive memories for the station's target audience. However, KIMN is the exception, not the rule.

WIll thanks for that lovely support (grin),.

You know I do post some good thoughts on here a lot of times and some good pointers, but to read that results in insult to me. So thanks
I got nothing more to say about this topic one bit. Expect what has failed, failed and KIMN failed for so many reasons like it is now, not that KIMN is what is was because it's not. It's not even recognize as KIMN just a sub name to MIX.
95.7 has been failing just as bad as KWOF has been failing all this time, none of them can get the listenerships at all for some reason. 95.7 was ok as KISS even though it was playing the same things as 96.1 was back then.
That is all I got to say.

You're welcome! Seriously, don't take it personally. There are a lot of people I don't agree with, and it doesn't mean anything more. It doesn't mean I'm any better at radio or any bigger of an authority than they are. In fact, some of the people I've disagreed with vehemently are considered gods in this business, and I know of at least one who would run me over on the road if he ever saw me!

If I'm ever back in Denver, I'll buy you a beer!
