95.7 the party

On March 14th, 2022, they switched call letters to KDHT. They have been "Hits 95.7" since last July, however.

If I was iHeart, I would just abandon the format and try something else. They have made some bad mistakes, and they're never going to beat Mix or Alice. Even if KFCO took most of the refugees, with KFCO's signal problems they would do no better than a 1.5 or a 2 share. I don't have many ideas on what KPTT might flip to, but even a classic hits or adult hits format would make them more money.
Against the MAMMOTH that is KXKL, I don't think so 🙄

What Denver REALLY needs is a Smooth Jazz/NAC outlet (Something we haven't had since KJCD left the air several years ago)

Agreed. I immediately know to tune to KXKL when in Denver.

Didn't 95.7 try that out in the late 90's?

I enjoy Smooth Jazz. But it skews too old. It just seems that nobody under 50 wants to hear instrumental music. I'm not sure why. Past generations liked Classical, Easy Listening, Beautiful Music and Smooth Jazz. But no instrumental music for this generation. Even Classic Rock and Classic Hits stations won't play past titles that were instrumental, no matter how big.

Since Denver seems to like Rock music so much, I don't see why a Jack FM or similar station wouldn't work. Some years ago, Denver had a Jack FM at 103.3 (now a public radio AAA station). It didn't set the world on fire but it is a low power signal.

Audacy has put Jack-like stations on the air recently in Houston and Boston. Same sort of playlist, same ironic and sarcastic prerecorded remarks going into and out of breaks. Houston is called 94.7 The Spot and Boston is Big 103.3.

I'm sure they have their own version of Instrumental music, just not what we're used to.

Yep 😎

I think you're referring to 102.3 KVOQ, during its days as KCUV.

I would love a Jack-FM format to come back. I've missed those quips 🤣

The PPM killed what was already a dying format 12 or so years ago. The average age of listeners was well outside the sales demos to begin with, and in the PPM the format did not find a secondary cume because everybody who listened already reported it on the diary.

There is no smooth jazz or similar format in any PPM market. And those with smooth jazz heritage, such as The Wave in LA are now dependent on a large Black and later generation Hispanic population for the bulk of their cume... something that Denver has neither of.
