95.7

Sacramento's Rise Guy's moving to 95.7 for the morning show and none of you folks are talking about it? What's up with that? Is anyone listening? Strange!

Moving or simply simulcasting the KHTK-1140 show? Did Rise Guys move to San Francisco?

since 95.7 is owned by Entercom, I wonder if The Rise Guys will eventually be simulcast on KCTC-ESPN 1320 in Sacramento? I know that The Rise Guys have a following in Sacramento.

I know it's sports talk, but would it kill 95.7 to broadcast in stereo? I like a little separation. ;D

It seems odd for a station to run mono, but I like the fact that the signal-to-noise ratio is so good. There's nobody else running mono and I forgot just how far an FM signal works when you eliminate that stereo subcarrier. I listened to an A's game all the way from Pioneer (up highway 88) to the Bay Area with just a little interruption coming up Altamont Pass.

A certain vintage of receivers would mute non-stereo stations but that seems to be not the current crop.

There's less noise because the whole 23-to-53-khz band is out of the picture. KALW used to broadcast mono on a lot of programming. I think they gave that up.

Not a bad move for the evil Entercom, to broadcast mono on 95.7, really.

The practice used to be stereo from 9pm until midnight and all day on the weekends, which were the times most likely to have music programming. All other times were mono because most of the rest of KALW's schedule was news and talkshows.

I'm not sure if KALW does mono in the same dayparts anymore because of the two radios I use to tune it, one doesn't have a stereo light and the other has a burned out stereo light. I do know that KALW has insignificant multipath problems during the daytime when I'm doing most of my listening.

I assume 95.7 does not run music on their HD-2 channel; thus no need for the active stereo pilot? For talk programming; I am for monoral operation when possible for the very reason of minimizing the noise floor, especially in the Bay Area.

HD and HD-2 are completely independent of whether a station's stereo pilot is on or off. You can have a monaural signal without the stereo pilot on the analog and still have full stereo on the HD side.

Thank you Lou for the info. Still getting caught up on the HD for radio thing! :)

And indeed, last time I checked they were still running country on their HD-2 channel, although they shut it off during local A's games to eliminate the delay and it seems like they sometimes forget to turn it back on. It's kinda handy, because when they do I get to enjoy KRSH again.
