95.9 The Ranch--construction permit?

According to Radio-locator they were I guess approved for a col move to Jacksboro. But for the DFW Area, what does that mean, how much more total coverage do we think?

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KFWR&service=FM&status=C&hours=U

looks like all the way to maybe Irving with a moderate signal? Am i thinking right?

I'd rather they move KTFW or increase the signal...get rid of that one north of dallas altogether.

They bought the Jacksboro station several months ago and apparently have found yet another way to get a signal closer to Dallas, but, alas, they have signals coming in toward Dallas on three sides now, but not a one strong enough to be Dallas competition.

Moderate may be a bit of a stretch. Remember that the red circles for FM stations on the Radio-Locator maps show the "service area," which corresponds to the 60dBu contour and not what is termed local or "city grade," which is the 70dBu.

You're right, and even though it's going to be noticeably better in the western part of the area there's no way they can deliver a decent signal over anything but the far northwest corner of Dallas County. The city grade will still stop just short of downtown Fort Worth and several miles west of Denton.

They also have co-channel K240DS in Garland in the way, which I've heard as far away as Stemmons @ LBJ...probably gets a bit further west before being swamped by KFWR.

K248BC 97.5 Dallas had to downgrade their signal to make way for KLAK 97.5's move south to Tom Bean. Previously, it was heard over much of Dallas...once KLAK signed on their new facilities, it had to drop power.

I imagine K240DS will have to do the same. FM translators have to yield to full power FMs...

KJKB 95.5 Jacksboro upgrades and moves to Scotland TX (and creates a new Wichita Falls market signal). KKAJ 95.7 Ardmore OK downgrades and changes city of license to Davis. KFWR changes city of license to Jacksboro (to keep "service" there since KJKB is gone) and moves closer. All of the stations are co-owned now.

They also bought the station in Kerens a few years back to be able to send a signal into the south east corner of Dallas County. The station is also called "The Ranch".

These guys have spent a lot of money trying to get into Dallas and just have not been able to get a strong signal into the Dallas City Limits.
