95.9 The River

Playlist is just a little too schizo at times although not nearly as off-kilter as Rock 95.5.. "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed on a classic alternative station? That song was a breakout hit for Active Rock and very deservedly gets decent air time as part of numerous rock stations' gold libraries, but it seems out of place on The River.

Overall, though, I think the song selection is good. I'd give it a B+. I think 99X in Atlanta does a better job.

The main issue I have with this station and many Alpha Media stations is the number of commercial units in most hours. Seven minute commercial breaks are very common. Multiple breaks daily might even reach eight minutes. It is not uncommon for this station and other Alpha Media stations to play 13 to 15 minutes worth of commercials per hour most hours. Routinely playing only 10 or 11 songs an hour is unacceptable to me.

Any updated thoughts on playlist/feel of the station now that it has been over a year since the format flip?

I like it. As Mark mentions, 99X in Atlanta does classic alternative better, but it's pretty good.

When I'm in the mood for alternative, I often find myself flipping stations, but 99X and The River are usually my first choices after SXM Lithium.
