950 ESPN should carry ESPN radio 24/7

expect for local play by play and or sports talk that gets bumped, due to play by play on 97.5. I think that will give ESPN radio a full clearance in Philly.

They should. I like to listen to Scott Van Pelt and Doug Gottlieb but I'm stuck listening on the internet to hear them. They should make 950 ESPN 24/7 and put it on 97.5 HD-3. During the baseball playoffs, not only did they not air some of the games on 97.5, they didn't air the game on 950 AM. Why not carry the game at least on 950?

I agree with this. There is no reason 950 cannot be full time ESPN with the overflow of live games.

Great idea, but could it hurt the main station (97.5) by splintering the audience? Tony Bruno is a back up for a morning show if Mike and Mike tank. But, I think G. M. must carry Mike and Mike to be a ESPN affiliate in Philly. I wish G.M. did more with HD signals. Own a Sony HD table top radio and love it.

I wonder if ESPN would allow GM to have 2 ESPN affiliates in the market, if one of them carries Mike & Mike and the other one doesn't. 97.5 really only needs ESPN affiliation for overnights, weekends, and play by play. If it could maintain that AND have a local morning show, that would be great for them.

CBS runs two sports stations in Baltimore. One is local on FM and the other runs ESPN on AM. I don't think the AM dilutes the FM's ratings.

My choice for the 97.5 morning show? Preston & Steve. I know they're not sports, but they would put that station on the map for GM like Imus did for WFAN back in 1988.

It seems like the idea of 950 being ESPN 24/7 other than for overflow game coverage makes a lot of sense. Unless there are places in the Philly metro that can get 950 real well and 97.5 not so well (in the Wilmington Metro area 97.5 is far better than 950 during the day and the only choice after sunset, but other areas possibly north of Philly or East into NJ might be a different story). But if that's not an issue, then why not air ESPN 24/7 on 950 AM other than for overflow games.

If there are reception problems with 950 in NJ north of Philly, doesn't the 1040 in NJ, which--I believe--is full-time ESPN, take care of the coverage issues in that area? I live 300 miles away, so I can't listen but would really like to know the answer.

1040 has a great signal into the northern Philly suburbs by day. At night, its pattern flips dramatically, and if you're somewhere like Doylestown or Lansdale, WNJE just disappears. (But 950's new night signal from the 860 site is pretty good up there.)

The other problem is this: while 1040 gets ESPN programming into that area, it doesn't really serve either party's business model. ESPN/Disney isn't selling advertising on WEPN/WNJE based on a fraction of a share in suburban Philly, and Greater Media isn't paying good money (or at least giving up spots for barter) to ESPN so that its in-market audience can be diluted by an out-of-market signal.

I was just driving around in the car and noticed that Colin Cowherd is running on 950.....
