953 The Wolf

I was visiting some family near Watertown and I found a Country station that I really enjoyed. 953 The Wolf. The problem is, I can't find any info on them online, outside of some articles about changing formats. In fact it was this website where I found it. I live in Ohio and that station sounded better than what I have to listen to 94.9 WQMX, the music was upbeat, a great mix too, not the same music over and over. The signal wasn't the greatest, but it was a nice change up from Froggy and I liked their morning people better than Froggy too. How are they ratings wise? Do they stream at all?

Thanks,

Dave

The station you're referring to is WLFK-FM-95.3 Gouverneur, NY "The Wolf". The station changed format from Oldies to Country on March 9, 2010. Currently there's no website or streaming.

Wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLFK

Radio-info.com Ratings Grid page for Market # 279 Watertown, NY here: http://www.radio-info.com/site/markets/grid/watertown (WLFK-FM still listed incorrectly with the format "Oldies".)

The station currently ranks next-to-last amongst rated stations with a 0.8 share for the Spring 2010 Survey period (April-May-June).

They are a new country station after flipping from oldies in the spring on this year. They broadcast from Gouverneur, NY which is kind of in between the Watertown market and St. Lawrence County's small market of Canton/Potsdam/Ogdensburg areas. If you are in the city of Watertown they have a translator at 104.1, but it is low powered and doesn't go much beyond the city.

Im not sure if the switch will pay off at all for them. Watertown's WFRY (Froggy 97) has been #1 for years, mostly due to its massive 97kw signal that covers much of the area, including WLFK's broadcast area. There is also Canton's WNCQ (Q-Country 102.9) that has a pretty big coverage area at 50kw. including much of WLFK's.

Community Broadcasters owns several stations in the area, most in the Watertown market, inlcuding WLFK and Im guessing they wanted a piece of the country ratings, since they don't own any country stations besides WLFK. For some reason Community Broadcasters doesn't stream any of their stations. Even their #1 WBDR doesnt stream anymore since they got bought by Community Broadcasters. They dont even have RDS on any of their stations except WBDR which had it before they got bought out.
