95X Changes

Here's hoping that Rockin Science will announce the newest "change" at 95X and explain how a dedicated longtime employee losing their job is a good thing!

Let me guess. They're finally gonna whack Alexis.

With her track record, I'm amazed that she's lasted this long.

Rome, aside from the fact that you haven't learned anything in the past 6 months and it seems you are clearly a dinosaur in the market, I will help you out a little here. The world has changed. If you model your business or your decision making on "what was" then you're gonna find yourself right next to Alexis. Tennure is no longer an advantage, it's a liability unless you have the market equity to back it up.

When you announce St. Anger as the "New" Metallica song, you preside over a precipitous drop in ratings even though most of it was out of your control, you get demoted, you're in a half hour before your 4 hour air shift and out the door a half hour after without putting in any extra effort to justify a full time salary??

What do you think is gonna happen? Every song becomes Classic one day.

It's a brave new world Rome, a brave new world.

At least it ended the rediculous "95X Going Country!!!" thread.

Galaxy must get the water for the water cooler from that polluted stream it sits next to on Walton Street!

Wait I forgot...they put Kool Aid in the water cooler there!

You are correct! Why would a station that has gone down in revenue for 5 years, that was down half a mil LAST year, that was down over 20% last month even consider changing?
95X-the 3 share that ate Syracuse!

Rome, thank you for making my point for me!

Who was the PD that presided over that 5 year decline in revenue? If your business model was followed you'd continue to reward failure and mediocrity with more money. Or are you really just looking for another way to bust the collective balls of 95X? Come on Rome, what's your real agenda here? Workers rights? Yeah OK Che.

Down 20% last month? Not bad given the economic environment we're all in these days. Not bad given that most of the half a mill you're talking about was made up by transactional business that went away with the O&A driven ratings slide. We ALL know that's starting to come back... enjoy it while you can Rome.

Brave new world indeed. And maybe it's time to change that world on James Street. Just lost a sales rep right? Who would want to leave such a happy home. Especially when you have someone running the show that doesn't have a clue. And has a conflict of interest. Yeah, I can do two jobs at once...
Excuse me, did I just here an account walk away? Keep playing Deep Purple.
If you were smart you would go country. Make a bundle. But we can't give up the 95X heritage. Loser

Deep Purple? Sorry you have 95X confused with TK. Kinda like KROCK playing the new U2. Bleh. They were over after their last album. Maybe Nixon can work out a Coldplay/U2 double shot or something.

BartStar, Again with country! WTF?? OK Einstein. How much money do you think you'd have to invest in a format change? How many listeners do you REALLY think you're gonna steal from the #1 station in the market? Yeah, give up on 30 years of Rock heritage in this town. I can tell from your learned position that you MUST be a frustrated rep somewhere.

That 30 year heritage has meant a 3 share for most of the past year and a sales debacle.Nobody cares about that station.
Can you at least tell us more about tomorrows Citadel layoffs? You may be on that list!

Yeah throw away 30 for one year. More wisdom. So where do you get this 3 share from? More Galaxy math? According to the metrics that EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY uses 95X is a 5.3% AS. Not to mention #1 in the demos that matter. You'll see when the beer buys come down...Oh and if no one cares about X then KROCK really must be in the shi*ter...cause their ratings are f a l l i n g :'(

Even if 95X gets most of the beer buys, it's not going to be good.

Governor Paterson is proposing an increase on the excise tax on beer as part of his 2009-10 budget. If it passes and beer prices go up, you can bet sales will fall and beer companies will reduce their advertising budgets. Not to mention, it seems InBev is on a cost-cutting spree after paying all that money to buy Anheuser-Busch. (Don't take my word for it... ask the folks who got laid off from the brewery in B'ville already, and those whose "guaranteed employment" contract will be nullified if the taxes do go up.)

I know A-B isn't the only brewer out there... but the taxes will impact all of them.

I doubt it'll effect beer sales that much and it won't have an immediate effect on their advertising. Alc sales by volume have increased since the economic doom and gloom hit us, on premise sales have gone down while off premise sales have increased.

Nice try though.

Nice to see that everyone is still spitting at each other.
Getting excited about winning beer money makes about as much sense as getting excited about the next episode of Seinfeld...neither of which exist anymore. Beers just don't spend and thriving radio stations don't aim for the beer money.
Feel bad to see anyone lose their job but I gotta agree with rockinscience..don't think many people even know who Alexes is despite the many years. Some people work hard and some people just work...and in every business it catches up with ya...
And rockinscience..assuming you have something to do with the Smut Rock station ...perhaps you can explain why shut up and rock means yak yak yak..and yak some more... and yak again and again....

A. You can't leave any money on the table. Get it all if you can.
B. Not sure where you work seenitall, but $150k+ in ad spending on the beer category certainly does exist. So you're saying you wouldn't be excited about it? You wouldn't go after it? that's roughly a third of what X was off in revenue last year according to Toupee boy. Nice getting that back in 3 or 4 quick moves.
C. Smut Rock? I'm not familiar with the genre. Can you please give me some examples. Perhaps Lite 105 would be more suitable for you listening habits.
D. Shut up and rock mornings? Quick breaks for sports, quick traffic and weather and 95 solid minutes of commercial free X-Rock. Basically, no 5 minute breaks about the cute antics of the DJ's kids and what happened on American Idol last night.
E. And according to Bob Ross the beer world is ending because the price of a six pack is gonna go up 6.5 cents. It's amazing how dismal a view of things you can have when it suits your purpose.

You have an answer for everything! I am so impressed! You must be in management over there. Rock is dead. The heritage that was 95X has been long gone. Come into the 21st century pal. No one wants to hear "another brick in the wall".

No one wants to hear "another brick in the wall".

Not particularly, although I still love Pink Floyd; but then I appreciate hearing people admit, "I don't understand old people music". :-\

Bart...Why don't you try learning about something before you criticize it. Pink Floyd hasn't been played on 95X in years. Rock is dead. OK. Somebody go tell The Foo Fighters, Black Label Society, Slipknot, Mudvayne and all the other artists that 95X plays. Sorrry guys, Bart said rock is dead so we have to change our format now.

This is turning into the old story about fighting with a pig, you both get filthy and smelly, but only the pig enjoys it. Bart, I'm afraid that if I keep arguing with you I am going to become stupid, narrow minded and unable to form complex thoughts.

Let's change the topic!
Hey how about those across the board Citadel salary cuts? Thank goodness this doesn't apply to the "Mighty 3 Share That Is 95X"! or do they Rockin' Science?
Tell the truth Hunter!

You're about as close to "Who" this is as you are what our ratings actually are. That's a 5.3% NOT 3.5% share. Of course, when your boss won't pay to use those numbers, like every other media company in the free world, I can understand how you get things wrong all the time. Must be very frustrating on a personal level.
