95X or KROCK showdown time!

I would think that it depends a lot more on WHO'S PLAYING than which radio station is the sponsor. DOH!

Such a D-Bag rome... let's see if we have a level playing field here...

Week night vs. Saturday of a Holiday Weekend.
2 Weeks. Yes, 2 weeks of promotion vs. How many months for the Saliva show???
Up and coming national act vs. One National headliner and 4 up and coming national acts.

X threw one of hell of a show with great local original bands and a kick ass headliner.

Bothers you doesn't it Rome. Err should I say Ed.

The concert attendance comparison is important because it shows listener loyalty. If you cant get people to respond to your own concerts how are you going to get them into stores, clubs etc.?
95X drew a "gentlemens" 1000(cough,cough) for an up and coming new band that a certain Rockin Science was proclaiming as the "next big thing".Heavily promoted for weeks.FOR FREE!!!
Did we mention that it was FREE?
Reportedly, tomorrow Krock will have over 8,000 people to see Saliva and some other baby bands!.8,000 people! That would fill the War Memorial. As big as B-Jam EVER was.First time Cuse event. At $10 a pop,$15 at door.
8,000 paid vs. 1,000 FREE. That says it all about those two stations.

Oh, puh-lease. Weeknight vs. the first holiday weekend of summer. Headliner with several other bands vs. one band that's not yet that well-known. Drawing a 1,000 people ain't bad.

How many of the 8K are comps? $10.00 a head is CHEAP. Even $15 is peanuts considering that the average concert ticket runs $50+ these days. It's a nice event, but trying to draw comparisons between your K-Rock event and the 95X event is just silly. It makes you look small, Ed. Pathetic, really.

I gotta agree with the post that says the concerts do matter.Thats how stations build listnership. If 95X is doing bad and doesnt have the $$$ to bring in big acts, thats OK because Krock does. So who cares as long as one of them does.

Like Rox said it takes the right PEOPLE. The right act for example; it could be a local band, but not JUST a local band but the RIGHT local band. There is no generalization involved that statement. If this isnt what you have, DONT DO IT. You need to have a good understanding of the local scene to book a band that will draw a big, diverse crowd. On the flip side, hiring a lame band can have the reverse effect and make you seem lame. Lameness lasts 10 times longer than sweetness (LOL) so be careful with booking the bands and attaching them to your station. It sounds like they both did well given the circumstances. I listened to 95.7 in my car yesterday and they sound great! The morning show is lame but the mid-day chick is cool. One fundimental problem and its a big one. None of the airstaff is familliar to me and Im in the demo. The morning show should be but any shift by a veteran would give the station a big lift.
