95YNF

I have a small box of cassettes from about 90-95 ...mostly interviews with bands, that I am in the process of dumping down on Adobe Audition, so I can de-noise them and categorize as well. I'm sure Rig, Medlin, Kristi Storm, even Austin out in LA all have a few put away. The last time I talked with Ted "Kamakazi" he said he has a lot stored on DAT tapes(Ted produced a LARGE portion of our imaging at the time). So, the material is out there. The best years for energy and attitude are 90-92...musically we sound like t*#s from about 92-95.

Believe me, in about my 6th year in the biz, 86... I was doing afternoons at WAQY in Springfield and the ONLY goal I had, was to get Carry Curlope to listen to my tape... he did ...and sent me a very nice rejection letter on 95YNF letterhead. That station was IT when it came to the perfect AOR sound.

And oh yea I not only have that rejection letter saved... I also have the RR article about Carry Leaving YNF

And...... the last hour of YNF on the air complete with audio from Blade Runner when Rutger Hower finally Dies

Not that I carry a grudge or anything ;)

Im rockin on the LEDGE!!!!... yeahhh baby... good to see ya Mr. Ledger... damn... Im so old I fart dust... I didn't even know about this board till a few weeks ago when I happened to stumble upon it... I hope all is rockin with you bro:) ... I have tons of 95ynf Airchecks from 1983 till the very last show in 1993 as I handed it over to those rats at cox... I just gotta find time and get them up on the 95YNF website... :)

... that's right... I was on Q105 till about a week ago... Q105 called me and asked me to do the all request 60's show on Sunday night... Scotty Phillips was originally doing it... but Scotty had to leave for personal reasons.... and now I too have left Q105 ... It was a fun... I am welcomed back anytime they said... but in my life right now.. between doing voice overs and spending time with the family... and running a few different businesses.... my time is just so limited.... Life is good:)

Hi Don..man we're old huh? YNF was truly an island. It was the sound of Tampa Bay for years. I remember when I got to Florida in 1975 when 94.9 was WLCY-FM playing Drake-Chelault's Hit Parade automation from the channel 10 building on Gandy..THAT'S how old I am..and Gandy Blvd was a two lane road with orange groves all the way from Pinellas Park to Derby Lane..

When the Rahalls started selling off..they sold channel 10 to Gulf Broadcasting run by Alan Henry..who also presided over 1380 until the Rahall family spun off 1380 to Harte-Hanks..a holding company..and 94.9 to TAFT..(Where Randy Michaels first starting taking real shape) they had to move the studio to the transmitter building where 1380's transmitter is...wow what a dump..Taft kept Y95 as a top 40 right through the WDAE/WYNF years with a slick "new" building on Reo Street. I did afternoons at WDAE and Y95 still did thier part to eat away at Q105 as a top 40..to no avail. When they started rocking..Steve Austin was on mornings as part of the "Breakfast Flakes" That's when the cosmetic of the station began to take shape. And LOCAL topical radio along with solid rock programming made 95YNF (y-ninty-five) an iconic station. When CBS bought them, they moved to the Ron and Ron building in St. Pete along with WSUN (purhcased from Schering Plough) And during the years when Don was there if I remember..(I was then afternoons at 92.5..U92) there was a set of bleachers built in the Ron and Ron studio..really show business, and from there it got stronger and stronger..When the rumors of Cox buying YNF started to bubble..I remember seeing a little hand made sign being put up in the main studio..it simply said..... "help!"

Vadar, as of this moment, I only have two short clips from the wax museum up... but just for you, I'm hooking up my tape deck right now. I've got some YNF stuff that'll blow your mind. Gimmie an hour or two!!!

i caught your show a few sunday nights and loved it. Q105 seems to have the best weekend jocks in this market - they at least sound like they are in the building. too bad you aren't there still don, it brought back memories of the YNF days.
