96.1 THE BEAT - Chattanooga

Wow.. I know the folks in Chattanooga are just dancing in the streets over this...

Thanks for the info. 96.1 The Beat sounds more like a hip hop station.

WJTT has long been one of the better mainstream urbans out there. Too bad WJTT and sister urban AC don't stream, of course "The Beat" does.

I wonder how many of those clear channel will put up...those 250 watters are seeming to become very popular in underserved markets for urban and gospel radio.

So its Mainstream Urban? Just curious because on the website weekends they have CC Urban AC jocks VTing from WDAS KHHT and WMXD?

This is Clear Channel's version of 'full-service urban contemporary', but rather than actually allocating an actual full-power frequency they are toying with people with this voicetracking mess. ::) They so needs to cease with this half-assed mess...

I second that....

But why the effort? Can this station be heard in most of Chattanooga? I can sort of understand why they would not be putting much money into a 250 watt signal.

From what I've seen on Radio Locator, they cover Chatt Town pretty good. They're branding themselves as "Chattanooga's Old Scool and R&B." I wouldn't be suprised if Orlando would be next.

I don't think Orlando's black population would be as accepting of such a half-assed effort considering they had a flamethrower signal for nearly a quarter of century to get hip-hop and R&B.

Well, in Austin they are mailing it in during everything but morning drive, with the generic "102.3 The Beat" which is now one of the top rated stations in the city. I guess I would prefer generic urban AC to generic hip hop myself. Chattanooga though does have some fairly decent stations in the format including the heritage WJTT.
