96.1

Has become Estrella

music has completely changed to what I perceive as adult ballads
no more Raeggaton as far as I can tell.

Don't know about their area of coverage, but if they hit the right areas of town, they might have some success.

There's a station in Miami that is owned by Univision. Uses the moniker "Romance". Didn't understand half of what the jocks were saying (as my high school spanish was failing me), but LOVED the music! And, I'm as anglo as it gets! Estrella might work....

But....we are talking about a Dr. Flinn station.... ::)

i think any form of spanish has been on that signal the longest out of any of the 468 formats that the good Doctor has to choose from.

i know when we had "The Phantom" on there for nearly 2 years, they kept teasing us that it would flip spanish, and if i recall, we actually played the spanish station on april fool's day one time. that was mild among the other silly things we pulled on 96.1.

in recent months, i know they've modified the signal somewhat, maybe it will get into at least southeast memphis better...if not more of northern mississippi instead of being aimed west towards forest city like it was.

yeah, good luck with that.

;)

I saw no long ago they lowered ERP and went up a little higher... driving in town i certainly can't see any improvement in the signal...

The signal should, at least in theory, be about the same. They increased height, but made a corresponding decrease in power. They remain a Class C3. It'll save on the power bill, but do little else for them.

The signal is, and will remain, spotty at best. The station's 1mv/m (60 dBu) contour (the secondary, non-City Grade), does touch part of the City, mostly in SW Memphis. You can hear the station at Graceland, but few places elsewhere in town reliably. Remember, 96.1 has a second-adjacent issue with 95.7, so it can only get so close.

oh yeah, i knew that, re: 2nd adjacent with 95.7 - the old 95.7 tower was just across the parkway from the back of flinnco. didn't CC move the transmitter/tower farther north (actually into mempis) and change the COL not too long ago?

95.7 is now located on that short self supporting tower beside the Clear Channel Tv studio at Union Ext and Poplar.
