96.5 KOIT Christmas Music

Looks like Sacramento's KHLX-Classic 93.1 has beaten KOIT by being the first Northern California Radio Station to change to All Christmas Music. Usually KOIT is the first one. They seem to be slacking this year. KHLX changed today.

Do you think Oldies 103.7 will be the next radio station to flip to All-Christmas music, creating a head-to-head battle with 96.5 KOIT?

I don't understand the annual fascination with this subject. Isn't KOIT playing Christmas music about as inevitable as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity criticizing Obama?

Personally, I can't stand listening to Christmas music until about December 22nd. It just reminds me that I have too many things to do before the Holidays.

Hopefully 103.7 will do what KFRC used to do - plug in a Christmas song every 4 or 5 songs, and otherwise stick with the regular play list.

I often get requests to play my accordion background music for parties around Christmas time, and I'm usually asked if I can keep the Christmas music to a minimum. Often I don't play it at all. When I play on the streets during the holidays I do play more Xmas music because people get nostalgic and tip me better. By the way, the Church banned Christmas music for centuries because they felt that it was disrespectful. What we know of today as Christmas has Pagan origins, actually...

As for radio play, if I listened to commercial radio I'd want to hear Christmas music no more than 1 in 5 songs..

David, I think your accordian Christmas music should definitely be on the KOIT and KBAY playlists. Something different would be a relief.

I play a mashup of "Silent Night" and "Blow the Man Down". Works great for both Christmas parties and pirate parties.

Because Christmas is over at 12:00AM, December 26th.

Same reason all the Retailers take down their decorations on December 26th.

According to that song I get tired of very quickly every year, it starts on December 25th and ends on January 5th:

At the moment I'm listening on the internet radio to Classic FM (UK) and they still are playing Christmas songs interspersed with their normal fare, and apparently they do so through the "twelfth day."

Sausages for everyone!
