96.5 Manchester flipped to country

Yesterday, WMLL flipped from classic rock to country, taking them out of competition with Rock 101 (which has consistently smoked them in the ratings) and into competition with WOKQ, a much easier feat. They’re running 5k songs commercial free, which should take them through the end of the year (almost), and are positioning themselves as “continuous country without the static” (which is weird because OKQ’s signal is pretty good, even in Nashua, and it’s ranked top 5 in the market consistently),

I see "Live Free Country" is the new branding -- playing on NH's motto of "Live Free or Die." "The Mill" was its branding as a rock station, so will the call letters be changing, too?

At first listen, the new WMLL's playlist is generic Hot Country, same as WOKQ, so it looks like the challenge to 'OKQ is based strictly on signal strength in points north and west of Portsmouth (with the exception of the flea-powered 97.9 translator in downtown Manchester).

I like this WOKQ WPKQ W250AB legal id from ages ago.... just makes them sound huge

Presumably the translator does an inaudible FSK ID these days

Love it! At least it has the signal(s) to back up its boast. Our WXXK (Lebanon, NH) boasts that it's "The Valley's BIG country" yet can't get much of a signal over the terrain on both the Vermont and New Hampshire sides. It just follows US 5 and I-91 along a narrow path up and down the Connecticut River. I lose it about 15 miles west of Lebanon on US 4, nearing Woodstock, VT.
