96.5 Moundsville-Wheeling WV

TAYLOR ON RADIO is reporting "BIGGIE 96.5" is about to pop.
Wheeling’s new country “Biggie 96.5” is about to pop, on the frequency that formerly ran EMF’s non-commercial contemporary Christian K-Love format. Keymarket acquired then-WLVW, Moundsville, WV from Educational Media Foundation, closed on it last week, and is now running construction sound effects. Keymarket is able to deploy new calls of “WBGI-FM” on the new “Biggie” because it also owns WBGI[AM] at 1340 in Connellsville, PA.

1340 went dark 2 weeks ago. 1290 is now simulcasting WUKL...Kool 105.5 Bethlehem Wheeling. No more ESPN Radio in our market.

Two points-the first one probably moot, as it is AM:

1) ratings for 1290
2) I hate when stations simulcast. If done correctly, ESPN 1290 should have done reasonably well, as the Upper Ohio Valley surely loves its sports.

I agree Greg, I just don't get it. speaking to some clients many have told me the FM reps toss in ESPN for bonus. Many people are really ticked off ESPN is gone. I'd say $5-10 is fair value fora 30 on 1290/1340! If reps would sell value for it 1340/1290 should be bringing in $25-30k a month. Remember my friends I was selling WLIT in Steubenville...circa 1977 for $5.80 a spot...and that was on a dead in the water daytimer...35 years ago!!!!!!!

I've seen that happen in much larger markets as well. Back in the 90's Cox had a REALLY good, all-local sports station on a great signal, AM 600. It needed to do $50k per month because they were paying a lot of local TV people and sportswriters to do the shows, but that wasn't unreasonable considering it had some ratings.

The FM reps selling Rock 105 and WAPE, the powerhouse classic rock and CHR franchises, gave all the spots on 600 away, and eventually AM 600 became Radio Disney (we've heard that ending, haven't we?).

Greg...regarding 1340 it's dead in the water, while driving down Altamont Hill last week it looked like stuff was being moved out of the transmitter shack. Tower is still standing. Don't know anything since the article in the Herald star 3 weeks ago.

Makes me even more inclined to think Keymarket is getting ready to sell 103.5.

It's redundant to Pittsburgh ever since 104.3 was upgraded, and they just use it to sell separate spots in Steubenville and Wheeling.
