96.5 Newark NJ Streetz96

They are a pirate. They must be pumping some huge power because I get them in Brooklyn on my HD Radio. They sound like a pro. The FCC will do nothing about it unless WQXR complains which I doubt.

Wow you even get them in NYC,that is just crazy, must be doing at least 500watts then,i think its on top of an apartment building since they referenced a building.

What posesses these pirates to go on 96.5 as opposed to 96.7? Isn't it more beneficial to be 2 frequencies away from the full powered NYC stations as opposed to being only 1 frequency away? Not only are they interfering with the licensed NYC station (WQXR), you would think they would be beat up more by the adjacent NYC station (being at 96.5) than the same frequency (if they were at 96.7) Class A up in Port Chester or Stamford or wherever the hell they are this week.

We don't need people listening to pirate stations. Take away their support and they will stop.

why? if a good rock pirate came about, that played the modern active rock format correctly, your damn right i would listen to it.

Because they're breaking the law and interfering with a properly authorized and licensed station. The pirates should be thrown in prison for a few months. That would teach them.

well, if the pirate plays better music than the regular station, why not tune it in. if all rock stations were like 1071 the bone in the lehigh valley, then maybe i would think different. but rap pirates, you cant win. its all garbage. but then again, maybe you thing that about my newer leaning active rock

There's no room for additional pirate stations. 96.7 has another pirate station on it whose owner would probably beat up the owner of Streetz 96 if he moves it to 96.7.

Things are definitely out of control if pirates can't find a good frequency to broadcast on because there are too many pirates out there already! :)

Re: 96.5 Newark NJ Streetz96 =check the email I got back from QXR

Hello my name:
We know all about them and they've been visited by the FCC on numerous occasions. We will continue to work with the FCC to have them shut down.
Thanks for getting in touch with us!!
QXR Engineering

Since contacting them ,they are only on at night now.
Hope this helps you QXR fans!

They have always been on only at night weekdays and all day weekends since at least 2005.

If the FCC visited them many times, why is it still on? First visit should have been a warning, second visit should have been a raid if it were still on.

Streetz 96 sells commercials to businesses that don't know 96.5 is a pirate, nice source of tax free income.

WQXR is hard to hear in Newark when the pirate is on. Wired 96.5 is hard to hear as far south as New Brunswick when the pirate is on.

I was listening to streetz96 morning show today and i heard someone form the FCC call up there and say your busted then they hung up. If that was really the FCC then they have to be on to them by now.

is hot 97 and power 105 not good enough for newark that they had to create another station of the same hip hop format? i bet u that if they played dance or even country someone would have the FCC shut it down within the first week.

I really hate this Pirate Station! I like to listen to 96.7 the coast from my Nutley,NJ home with my grundig 350 DL and now I cant because the Pirate bleeds onto 96.7 and 96.8..

We have all seen You Tube video of FCC pirate station raids..Guns drawn..People taken away in handcuffs...Agents removing equipment. (Ah, the good ole' days!) What happened?! Perhaps part of the problem is that some of these pirates are in very bad neighborhoods and in some caases, the station operators, themselves, may be armed.
Perhaps the FCC should be more than a 9 to 5 operation and raid these stations at night or on weekends. Clearly the situation is out of control and getting worse.
People need to go to prison..Until then it's "let the good times roll."
