96.5 pre-Mexican

The Peak, or The Bleak as it was commonly known, started with a modern rock format and switched to all-80's after Emmis bought it. I thought it was the worst all-80's station I ever heard. It seemed focused on new wave and lots of deep cuts.

The Peak started out as AAA in 1994 or so, with some x-KBCO folks involved. It was more rock-oriented than BCO was in those days, but still pretty laid back. Not sure how long it lasted, was still there when I left Denver in 1997.

I think Nina Blackwood was a jock there at one time. And 96.5 was Denver's Howard Stern affiliate. They wouldn't have carried this during their AAA run, maybe when they were active rock, and doubt if he was carried over to the 80's format.

The Peak wasn't modern rock when they started in 1994, they were AAA. They were still AAA when I left Denver in late 1996. It seems like they were pretty 80's-focused for a AAA, compared to KBCO anyway.

An 80's format focused on "new wave and deep cuts" sounds pretty good to me actually :).

Ahh the old 96.5 The Peak 80's station, it was a good station at the time before the sale. All that was said is true it tried to be a ROCK station, and then it went back to the 80's.. Mainly the forcus
for 96.5 The Peak was to be an all 80's station with everything that had to be with the 80's.
