96.5 The Fox going back to 98.5 starting Friday I hear?

I don't know why the switch in the first place nor the reason behind it? It seams that the 98.5 has the greater coverage to me, even though 96.5 is a 50,000 watt station.

96.5 has the better signal in Kern and south Tulare county ,where am at 96.7 KALZ dominates the signal ,I get 98.5 better ,I have been DXing that station for years.

Before 98.5 had it's power cut back from 50,000 watts to it's present 8,000 watts they owned the High Desert with a better signal than some High Desert stations. At 50kw 98.5 was the only station that could cover hwy 138 without break up from I-5 to Palmdale without any signal break up or noise.

It's a result of the Lotus trade. CC had to get rid of a Bakersfield signal as a result of the buyout. It traded a Bakersfield signal and one in Las Vegas to Lotus for Lotus' rocker in San Antonio. The original plan was to spin 98.5 to Lotus. CC wanted to keep the more successful format, so it moved KBKO to 98.5. But Lotus insisted on getting the bigger signal or the deal was off. So they're switching back, and Lotus will get 96.5 as KBKO. Or at least that's what I'm hearing.

That makes sense.

I heard Lotus is gonna make 96.5 into a HipHop station. I don't know why they would do that. Bakersfield doesn't need another station that plays the same crap that Hot 94.1 and Play 103.9 play. I don't know. We'll see what happens

That is gonna work, 96.5 kiss fm did way better then kbko

98.5 is back ,i'm getting it with no problem ,97 miles away north ,there music is more like the Blaze ,than 95.7 the fox.

Let's hope if they do a form of "hip-hop" that they keep it very mainstream... between 94.1 and 103.9, there's enough 'too cool for the room' rap music on the air here. don't think anyone would mind hearing 'the hits'.

Hip hop has 3 decades of hit makers. If someone was smart they would throw in a hip hop thow back track every now and then not just a 2pac or biggie record. Keeping it mainstream isnt the problem with radio tunes its the material that is being released by the recording industry. I have noticed over the past month that KBDS has tweaked their playlist and thats great for them. KISV is still powerhousing KBDS andthats a no brainer there. If KBDS would boost up in power then they would reach more and capture more core audience etc. If the SRG does do a hip hop station with the stick that 96.5 has and a good talented staff KISV and my good friend at hot maybe in for some good radio comp which this city hasnt seen in YEARS!!!!! Only time will tell and may the best team win.
