96.5 the max fm...
10,000 songs in a row...how long does it take to play 10,000 songs? hell if it was the ramones it might only take 24 hours but some of the classic rock songs are five or so minutes. so, at a 4 min avg that would be 40,000 minutes of music and would be about a month of music if I had to guess...

and it seems the website will probably eventually be http://965maxfm.com/

Well at least the little countdown thing was entertaining and we all had some fun trying to figure out what format it was going to be. Sucks that it was a big let down but hey look at the bright side, in a few months we can all do it again when they have to flip it becuase it failed. This town needs another outdated rock station about as much as it needs another mexican restaurant or as much as Rosedale hwy needs another tire shop.

Isn't MAX-FM another name for JACK-FM classic adult hits.

Okay, here goes my speel:
1: Gotta say I am NOT disappointed with this new station. I welcome any rival channel to "The FOX", the gorram bastards that put B-ROCK out of business (and stole their best DJ).
B: MAX-FM, not owned by the same company as JACK-FM. Although it does, thus far, have the same format as both Jack, and our local beloved Pirate (no DJs).
3: Yes I think it is possible to have too many tire shops on Rosedale Hwy.
4: I hope that Max does to Fox, what Fox did to B-Rock, as I mentioned in #A up there. If they don't slaughter the Fox, then at least they are taking away some listeners.
5: I can't stand Clear Channel, so there is part of my dislike for the Fox.
6: ...Well this is more of an "I wonder", will they keep the no DJ format, or will they put some voices along with the new channel? It seems to be a new thing to cut costs. No DJ, just a Board Operator, means less money spent, more money earned.

I only heard an hour of the Max today at a parking lot . I know CBS radio originate JACK-FM. I know a similler station in the bay area had MAX-FM .are they more like the blaze or jack-fm which is going after 95.7 the fox.

Found an article here at radio info....

(here is the article... I copied and pasted. Hope that is okay.)

Bakersfield's KBKO flips from country to "Max FM"

After five days of stunting, new Lotus Communications station KBKO-FM (96.5) in Bakersfield, California flipped the switch at 12:00 pm PT Tuesday by playing the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up," ushering in a Classic Hits format and "10,000 songs-in-a-row." Station GM Greg Holcomb tells Radio-Info, "Nobody here is playing most of what we will be playing." He says "Max FM" will focus on "music for listeners 35 & up." Holcomb also tells Radio-Info he expects to have new call letters, KVMX, in use by August 11, pending FCC approval. For now, the soon-to-be KVMX will play "10,000 songs-in-a-row" jock-less through Labor Day. After that, the station will focus on putting together an on-air staff. Lotus now owns five stations in Bakersfield, counting KBKO, just acquired in a swap with Clear Channel. The other four stations carry Spanish programming.

I haven't been to SF in a while, so I know not of the ".are they more like the blaze or jack-fm which is going after 95.7 the fox." portion of this question..

OHH YEAH. Listening to 96.5 MAX-FM right now, and let me tell you it is so good to hear the intro to "Werewolves of London" and it not be that damned Kid Rock song.

I think LOTUS will add DJ's to the MAX. with what they did with there other stations in Fresno and Las Vegas. As far as a web site and stream give the Blaze and Max time to build one.

the blaze doesn't play Kid rock. there more 70's ,80's and 90,s classic rock.

1. Max is a major snore. Burned out music, that about killed the Fox before DC fixed it. Max has more in common with KGFM and Pirate, than it does fox. They will shave a share or two off of the fox, I am sure, but I don't think the fox is their direct target.
You missed #2, but called it "B". To that I say, very clever. You are a worthy opponent. I like the cut of your jib.
3. Rosedale does have too many tire shops, I agree, but we need more landscaping businesses. You can never have enough places that sell Crepe Myrtles and lawn mowers.
4. Negative attitude won't win in a battle of skill, sound and entertainment. Max sounds like a DeMers programmed Classic Hits. This station is about as generic as a station can be. The very thing consulted radio has been accused of for years.
5. Hating a company is a bad reason to want a generic sounding station to win. You sounds like they canned you and you just have sour grapes. Which I could understand disliking your former employer, but liking a crappy station, because of that, is just plain dumb.
6. They will have voices. When you look at Lotus' web site they don't have any stations without DJs.

Number 6. is why I jumped out of radio...shrinking job market is not my cup of tea to make my living. Hell they do not even have board ops 90% of the time...maybe one per group of stations. Just let the computer run it.

And, if they do start using DJ's will it be live or will they just have DJ's from another market voice track it to help keep costs down.

That was my question... NO IM NOT LOOKING FOR A JOB!!! I have friends that would be perfect fits. Squires if you on here hit them up thats your musical knowledge.

1) Do you think anyone outside of radio people cared about this flip? Or was listening?

2) The only person who can save the Fox now is Chris Squires!

1.1: I know, because they have stated on the station, that the target area is 35 years old and up. "Playing the music we grew up listening to". But I have to say that I like this music better than anything being played on KRAB right now.
1.2: I am 25 years old, not in their target audience, but I listen to classic rock. Loved B-Rock, listened to the FOX, just because they are classic rock, listened to Pirate, for a taste of old and new.
2: I'm glad that you liked the switch up from 2 to B.
3: I would have to agree, we do need more landscaping business on Rosedale. Not enough of those.
4: I think that MAX is a bit generic right now, but they just need time to establish themselves, and once the DJs are on board, then the the station will get more personality.
5: I don't really "hate" Clear Channel (know as CC from now on), I just have a great dislike for them. Running out B-Rock, although some would say that if B-Rock were a better channel they would have prevailed, and I agree. Fox, well CC had more money than Buckley Broadcasting, and was able to pull the DJs, well at least one that I know of, from B-Rock over to the Fox.
6: After my original post, i found the article saying that they will have DJs, and that they will come on after labor day. http://www.radio-info.com/news/index.php?nsID=2919

B-Rock's downfall started when they took the westwood one adult rock format and stopped programming it themselves. which jock left B-rock and went to the Fox?

With automation systems these days you don't even need a board op. Just a keyboard and a screen in a back closet at a cluster will do.

1: I think the only ones that really cared about the flip are the radio people themselves just to see what direction it was going to be. Many rumors were circulating town and other boards that it was going to be hip hop, old school, dance, mainstream top 40 etc. The funniest was me programming.. I got a kick out of that. I mean dont get me wrong I do know the music but its not my cup o tea.

2: Squires would be a perfect fit for that format and station. I would love to see him back in action programming a station with a NICE signal. I know some would disagree but he knows his SH!T...

2.5: Board ops are a thing of the past. The only ones that I see having board ops are KNZR and KERN for the live talk jocks. Everything else is OTTO MATION he's a new radio jock. Shhhhs Pirate is just a keyboard and screen NO CONTROLS PERIOD, NO BOARD NO PHONES NO MICS NOTHING, Basiclly an $18,000.00 Scotts Studios Ipod with sweeps and spots. Brilliant concept saves money and no primadonna jocks in the hallways last but not least no headaches.... Win win for the suits. As for the out of work talent OTTO MATION/ Voice tracked jocks are THE ENEMY....

3: B-Rocks downfall WAS when they did switch to westwood one. It all came down to how much money they saved by not paying talent. In the end they flipped it to Groove and now its a power house. Smart move on Buckleys part for that one. Now the question is "WHAT WILL CC DO NOW" with the Max stations birth here in the Hicksville slums (Bakersfield)?...

We should play the whos station is v/t'd game... I know 85% of the locals for a fact are v/t'd english speaking... Not that IM crying just being completely honest....

4.: They won't be expanding too much. Peter Smith keeps it pretty tight. If you hear anything, different, it will be more in the vein of Gordon Lightfoot, as opposed to AC/DC. Peter is really good at this format. AC stations should be nervous.
5.: Running another station out of the format is the name of the game. You put the other guy out of business, or they put you out of business. It's called competition. Only the strong survive.
