96-5 TIC... Who's the PD?

So I've been listening to TIC the last few weeks and it seems like there's no one watching the store. The jocks are all over the place - talking on and on about absolutely nothing.

I heard Damon Scott do a break tonight and he never ID'd the station once. How does that happen? Hartford isn't a PPM market yet... it wouldn't kill ya to say the call letters in a break every now and then.

The imaging is also WAY over the top. It's too hip for the room and seems to speak to radio geeks only. TIIC used to be a great station, really well focused etc. But it seems to have come off the tracks.

The place I go to for lunch has WTIC-FM on every time I go there. It's usually in the evening, so I wind up hearing Damon. To me he comes off as your best friend's uncool dad. I think he does a great job with his voiceover work doing commercials with other companies, but as a D.J.? No thanks. My other problem with the station is that they take a song that's maybe 5 or 6 months old and keep it in heavy rotation as if it's new. PD is one thing, but their MD (Music Director) is another. :(

I met Damon once. He was doing a remote broadcast from the now-defunct Shaw's Supermarket in Bristol. It was 2001 right after I started working there. He came across as a full-of-himself pompous a**.

Hey, at least he's there and not voicetracked out of Timbuktu. I personally find him pretty entertaining. I wish 'TIC's signal was a little stronger here in southern New Haven County.

My twin brother has run into him a few times at a Wolfpack hockey game at the XL Center. He didn't seem to be that way with him at all. Maybe because they both like hockey? Who knows?

The point of the topic wasn't to debate whether or not Damon Scott is a good guy. I'm sure he's a good dude.

I was pointing out the station overall and how un-focussed they seem. From jocks, to music, to imaging. Typically CBS properties are high-quality. TIC at the moment seems to be all over the place. That was my point.

I've been listening to 96.5 TIC for years and years, and I'm not really noticing what you mean by "all over the place." Their music rotation is pretty typical for a Hot AC. They're mixing in currents with recurrents and some older stuff. I just went through their logs for Monday December 21st from 11am to 6pm, and I'm not seeing anything way "out of the ordinary." The playlist isn't "tight," but it shouldn't be on a "variety station." If i'm looking for a heavy rotation of the same 30 songs, I listen to a CHR. 96.5 has been a mix of songs with a shelf life and "flavors of the week" since 1994, and it works for them.

I agree that the rotation on their recurrents is a little too heavy for my liking, but nobody's perfect.

As for the imaging, it doesn't blend in, and I like that in imaging. They take risks, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I give credit for taking chances, even if it doesn't always work out.

Damon Scott's been doing the same thing on 96.5 TIC since the mid-90's. He's a personality, has a personality, and does personality radio. Not every personality is suited for every listener. Again, I give credit for CBS Hartford having Damon Scott live in studio, doing his own thing. If I looking for a station that appeals to every single person, I listen to the liner readers on any of Clear Channel's stations. In this day and age, I think credit has to go to any station that isn't doing what everyone else is doing.
