96.5

It is going to be FM Talk. What do I a guy from Connecticut know?

In a newsblurb on Washington (DC) Radio & TV Online DCRTV.COM there was a blurb that DC based hot talker Don & Mike had been picked up by a station in Miami, Florida. The blurb also said this:

DCRTV hears that D&M's syndicator, Westwood One, is trying to land the Rockville-based show on a Cincinnati FMer that is slated to flip to talk in November....

Mancow To Gain New Cincy FM Talker, Loses KLAC/L.A.
Those rumors about CUMULUS Country simulcast WYGY-WPRV (96.5 THE STAR)/CINCINNATI aren't going away -- ALL ACCESS is hearing that the split of the simulcast, with WYGY and the Country format moving to 94.9 (the former WMOJ (MOJO 94.9)) and the 96.5 frequency going with Talk, could happen around NOVEMBER 1, with TALK RADIO NETWORK's MANCOW in the lineup along with WESTWOOD ONE's BILL O'REILLY and possibly DAVE RAMSEY and sister WWTN (SUPER TALK 99.7 WTN)/NASHVILLE's PHIL VALENTINE.

If they switch to talk, they're much bigger idiots than I thought.

It looks like it's just a rumor at this point, but past rumors of incredibly idiotic format choices have turned out to be true. I remember back in 1990 seeing something in one of the trade papers like Billboard at the library a rumor about 92.3 in Columbus switching from rock 40 to oldies. I thought there was no way they'd do it, since Columbus had at least one FM oldies station at the time. But they did, and never recovered as long as they remained oldies.

I grew up and worked in DC and if there is one thing I know, you either love Don and Mike or you hate Don and Mike. And, not the way that people say the same about Mancow or Stern. Don and Mike's humor is very brash and hard to get...I think those of you who know them would agree. It is also a fairly tiring show to listen to at times! I don't think they would do well here at all...and I love them...but this city wouldn't even give them a chance.

Just in from Inside Radio:

Looks like Cumulus is going for a new FM talker in Cincy, led by Mancow.

Remember that Cumulus sold the intellectual property of rhythmic AC “Mojo” to Radio One for a cool $5 million and has been simulcasting country WYGY on both Star’s old 96.5 location and the former Mojo at 94.9. Next week they’ll drop the simulcast and leave “Star” at 94.9. And up at 96.5 — they’ll install an FM talk format with syndicated shows like Mancow Muller in mornings.

That is huge, breaking news...did anyone else hear about this?

John Kiesewetter of the Cincinnati Enquirer pretty much wrapped it up today, saying Talk Radio Network confirms the Mancow move to 96.5. All the rest is still in the speculation/not yet confirmed stage.

Well, Flavin, looks like you got it right.

Now.....if Ramsey leaves WKRC, who would fill that spot? I wish it would be Bruce Williams, but I don't think his program has enough local commercial time for the CC crowd. Hey, maybe on 96.5??? His is the only talk show I like that I can't get OTA.

I did hear about it. It was about a week ago when I started this thread.
;)

Bruce Williams? Even if he offered 58 minutes/hr of local avails, no one would want him.

Perhaps Clark Howard? Not a fan, but seems like 'KRC wants something a little less political from 10-midnight. She wouldn't come back even if they wanted her to, since she prefers being live (as she is on 1050), but Dr. Laura after Michael Savage was a little bumpy.

Now they don't need the stereo signal. They can go mono and greatly increase the range.
