96.7 dead air - Newark area

I'm in the Newark area (few miles west of the city) and over the past few days I have noticed dead air being broadcast on 96.7. I used to be able to listen to 96.7 The Coast from CT, but now my radio says 'Tuned' but there is nothing but dead air. I assume this must be related to some pirate in the area. Anybody else noticing it?

Those pirate stations don't care if their transmitter's on when they're not broadcasting anything. They won't get their license revoked for broadcasting dead air for weeks.

If their transmitter's on, why not just broadcast something instead of wasting electricity. That frequency could be used by another pirate station or (gasp) DXers!

Why would 96.7 interfere with Z100?
