96.7 El Patron, why??

Keep in mind that in that period Atlanta did not have PPM and did not have sufficient Hispanic population to warrant ethnic procedures for Hispanics. A lot has changed since then.
I would think it would do even better than it appeared to do vack then, if accurate. It’ll be interesting to see how Davis responds to all of this considering they are local in the metro - personally I don’t think they see 96.7’s flea power in an area where their own signals are deficient any kind of threat.

Was there any difference in La Preciosa and El Patron? I remember Clear Channel using both heavily in the mid 2000s but it seems like they mainly use El Patron these days.

Yes preciosa was and still is more of your oldies and Adult standard station. It was more a response to Univision’s Recuerdo format
We considered Recuerdo to be "Spanish (language) Adult Hits" as it had a broad playlist and covered a span of about 40 years.

In fact, Arbitron accepted that format name as one of the applicable format descriptors for use in the station information package.

For those unaware, it is a specifically Mexican focused format combining light regional Mexican, grupera, pop ballads and a small amount of Mexican artist cumbia.

Yes sir I was around when Eleazar garcia launched the format was also around when I heart launched preciosa 97.1 in Dallas ft worth and did very well with it in ratings

There is no "novelty" value in that format. "Music of Your Life" lasted for a number of decades... from 1978 till, in a few places, today.
MOYL was a thing in Atlanta during the 80s...on 104.1 when it was still mostly in LaGrange and, oddly, on 680 during its WGTW days.

Big A, what do you think is iHeart's objective here? This won't get ratings because it doesn't cover most of Atlanta with a 60 dbu signal. The counties covered by the signal have a low Hispanic composition. Do you think the objective is to gauge response before adding a simulcast with 105.7? Do you think it's to get a higher spot rate by telling advertisers they're getting the entire Latino spectrum?
Could it be to put Regional Mexican in about the only spot that 107.1 + 102.3 don't reach?

García had nothing to do with the Recuerdo format, the programming or the on-air operations of Recuerdo. It was created in LA in the year 2000 by Amalia Gonzalez and myself and it was not until Clear started to copy the format, badly, that I was called to Dallas and Mac, Jeff and the crew asked me to take Recuerdo national. Eleazar was brought in to handle logistics, not programming.

Perhaps, but there are not very many Hispanics in 96.7's coverage area. I wonder if The Big A is on to something when he says iHeart might be looking to create a national El Patron brand and wants to show an affiliate in the Atlanta market. Or maybe they want to see what kind of response the format gets before putting it on 105.7. Someone who should know told me that 96.7 does not encode for the PPM.

Mr. Freeman to the best of my knowledge is a reliable truthful person on the site. So his remark about 96.7’s lacking PPM surprises me. What in the (fill in your own word) is iHeart thinking? The best I can tell most of 96.7’s signal is in a PPM market. I doubt iHeart is “beating the streets” south of the airport for revenue. If this is one of their “lab rat” format test stations one would think they would have PPM.

96.7 has to encode. It beat 105.7 in last month's 6+ ratings. Perhaps 96.7 started encoding after the split from 105.7
