96.7 KWIZ History

Hey Guys:

Can anybody tell me the history of KWIZ's format in the 60's and 70's?

What was this format called "Request" mean in the mid 70's? I found this in the yeabooks when I was doing my research.

Thanks

T.J.

Both KWIZ and KLOK had all request radio... essentially everything they played was a request.

This station dates back to the 30's, and has had several sets of calls

hey t.j....
are you working on something, or just curious? If you are working on a project, hopefully you'll make
it available on-line somewhere !

He is obviously doing research for free on here. I hope that he is going to come up with something unique and not merely a rehash of what Michael Haggerty, Barry Mishkind, Don Barrett, David Gleason Eduardo and others have already done.

Are you listening TJ?

"...Sound On The Rebound (sfx: *pop*) K-W-I-Z!'

To romer979fm and ercjncpr:

I am working on a project to make a complete list of the format history of all of the stations in the Los Angeles-Riverside area. This is some task that I am doing . A lot of stations to research. My research is going well thanks to all of you on this board.

Thanks you all very much for your help and sharing of your stories. If you guys (romer979fm and ercjncpr) have any history you can share it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
T.J.

Well good for you, I hope you are able to find a lot. Another great free source (although limited, since it covers 1930-1960) is JJs Radio Logs http://www.jjonz.us/RadioLogs/

Hey Guys:

This is what I have for KWIZ 96.7 so far from my research:

Yearbook editions:

1947 to 1967: KWIZ Simulcast 1480 am

1967 to 1971: KWIZ No format listings. Any idea what the format was?

1971 No format listings

1971 to 1974: KWIZ "Request"??

1974 to 1976: KWIZ Contemp

1976 to 1978: KWIZ MOR/AC

1978 to 1983 KWIZ Beautiful Music

1983 on KWIZ AC

That is what I have so far. If there is anything anyone can add please do.

Thanks

T.J.

Early 90s, KWIZ was AC and they would say "KWIZ-FM, Orange County's Soft Rock 96.7 K-W-I-Z." (I still have tapes of this somewhere). I can't remember what year, but by the mid-90s, they were Vietnamese language for a while before transitioning to Spanish.

Sometime during the 90's, KWIZ was brokered too. Some shows were Renegade Radio 96.7, which was all techno (I still have tapes somewhere), 96.7 The Vibe, which was all house music, and La Z which was Spanish.
