96.7 news?

Came half way into an announcement about 7:15-7:20 this morning saying something like they are "going away" as of 11/11? After that you can hear them ONLY online? Anyone else hear it? I did hear them say it was "something they didn't want to do" Stuntung? Sale? Gabe? Lemme know what you know/think/speculate..

If legends is going out, then crush fm should flip to oldies from the 50's, 60's and 70's and blow wtry out of the water

Christmas to beat WYJB and WTRY to the punch? Perhaps... what would they flip to afterwards if Legends is really going away? I don't see Pulse 967 coming back (sorry CCM fans), maybe more FM conservatalk? One FM talker is fine for me, thanks :)

I wasn't surprised to see The New Legends 96.7 WPTR close it's doors for good they had no local advertisers and Don Crawford Wasn't making any money because there is no local dj's to promote the station.

what happens next for DJRA Broadcasting is interesting to find out will he go back to Christian AC ? or create another format on that frequency ?

this should be interesting

if crush were to go oldies yes they would blow WTRY out of the water.... I am sure terry knows this since he had worked for WTRY.

crush fm should play 50's 60's 70's 80's and 90's but my sources who work there say he is staying 90's

From an email blast...

Legends Lover: Due to very weighty, financial demands from the lending source DJR Broadcasting has utilized consistently over the years to invest and grow, we are being forced to cancel the New Legends format on 96.7 WPTR on Friday, November 11th. Trust me when I say that we are crushed by the fact that we are obligated to do this. Trust me when I say that it is however categorcially beyond our control.

We WILL, however, continue the very special New Legends music over the Internet at mynewlegends.com, enabling all to listen on-line, at home, at work, and on their I-phones. Therefore, tens of thousands will not be left out and lost without their Legends favorite music. Additionaly, we are keeping our superb Host, Mark Shuttleworth, who will provide the same quality, delightful listening experience for the Capital Region you have grown to love. So your Legends music is not going away. Only how you listen will change. So begin to listen to us atmynewlegends.com on November 11th and thank you for your understanding and continued support of our advertisers.

Sincerely,

Don Crawford Jr.

President, DJRD Broadcasting

what advertisers ? lol they never had none in this local market there were doomed to fail.

well online is great but people loved WPTR in there car where will these listeners go now? WTRY? Crush?

Albany needs another good oldies station

will Crush Convert yet again to Oldies? time will tell

where does this leave the 96.7 frequency ? many questions to be answered all i know is don crawford made a big mistake not trying to find local albany talent to build this station up instead of using Legends 102.7 utica jocks to feed into 96.7 via voicetrack. Crawford still has 102.7 though which is booming but in utica ny

It's been actually jocks from Legends 102.7 in Rochester. Maybe if they had been located in Utica they could have done more to make 96.7 a go.
What is this nonsense "we are keeping our superb Host, Mark Shuttleworth, who will provide the same quality, delightful listening experience for the Capital Region you have grown to love."? This guy was voicetracking giving song titles every once in awhile. Big deal. The station was only on a few months and was too "financially challenged" to hire even a local morning host. Sorry Legends owners but if I go on the internet there's a whole lot of better oldies streams to select from. What made Legends unique in this area was it was an over the air alternative station to the increasing monotonous TRY run by the CC creeps who fired a area broadcast legend.
And don't hold your breath waiting for Crush to go true oldies. It's a format that appeals to folks over 50. We buy things too in spite of the "radio research".

whoops my bad chuck rochester duh , well they keep mark because after all he is program director, I think there plan will go downhill anyhow , Don Crawford is losing big time.

Albany does need a true oldies station if Crush doesn't then who will?

WTRY lost a legend and there will be fewer listeners now...

albany needs to target more of the older people anyhow , most stations in this market focus on 18-40 , they need to stretch it to 50 +

this is where a variety station is best

you have some great valid points chuck

This sucks! I didn't listen to 96.7, it was an oldies station, but it's very upset to see them go. If you want a better oldies station, I recommend WGNY's "Fox Oldies" at 98.9. That's a better station that "Legends". I hope they should bring enough listeners from the loss of "Legends" to "Fox Oldies". Go try it out!

WGNY is a great oldies station. Even with it's weak signal in the Albany area I've already placed it as a preset on my car radio in lieu of 96.7.

1540 with John Gabriel can only happen if Crawford would sell the legendary station.

If Crawford doesn't have the money to do things right they should sell either 1540 AM and 96.7 FM or both.

WTRY has now cynically flipped to all Xmas.... I highly doubt that this would have happened if Rapture-96.7 wasn't coming on the air Friday! Totally disgusting!!!!

We definitly need another oldies station here in Albany. One that has a great signal and not afraid to hire local Dj's and that is not afraid to play oldies from the 50's on up.

OldiesMike, I couldn't agree more. Clear Channel decimated WTRY our heritage oldies station by limiting its playlist and cruelly firing an area broadcast legend along with others nationwide. Perhaps Crush could hire John G and Walt Adams and go oldies but I doubt it. The trend nationwide seems to be less and less toward oldies stations especially those that play 50's.

Magic 590 plays 50's classics especially on weekends when it really rocks and rolls. And while they are moving their studios WCKL in Catskill has been playing a lot of the rarer 50's cuts along with some Music of Your Life stuff like WABY Mechanicville used to play. WCKL can sound like a halfway decent radio station at times especially when they don't open their mikes.
