96.7 now another home for "The Groove"

Just like The Groove's new logo, CC has NO BALLS!

Did you hear how 96.7 sounded at the change? Music stopped right in the middle of a song then the Groove was put there. Legends listerners had no warnings. Website instantly deleted too.

Well I guess it's another preset.... I'll be adding to my car soon - WHEN I MOVE!
..And all this time I thought I was going to London! Well well well... plans surely do change. Now I'm REALLY going to wish WBTS and WWWQ never changed from their early 2000's ways!!

Nominee for POTW?

I'm not fully sure why this would happen because I've heard many people say "Say what you want about CC, but they do have some of the best sounding CHR's". Well, I guess... SOMETHING... in Atl. is just preventing this from happening there! No one can figure out exactly what it is, or why every single time a "proper" chr format is there, it quickly and mysteriously disappears. ???

NOBODY KNOWS.

That was a better logo. Now these new logos look plain as if a kindergartener designed it.

Yuck, that new logo is terrible. I'd much rather have the old one back. Looks like CC has been hiring kids to do logos now.

The 96.7 FM signal going to The Groove certainly underlines the fact that CC doesn't have a single thought for GST in their heads. The station is simply not to be found in the long-range plan. No willingness or fire to compete, despite the weakest WSB-AM has ever been and may ever will be.

That said, this simulcasting of FM music stations on co-owned FM signals is a highly efficient way to eliminate local radio stations and their costs without just letting the signal go dark. Look for much, much more of it. Don't think that it's any kind of programming "strategy." It is what it is. We can't afford to operate, so we're shutting stations down.

So knowing the trend that's coming, what moves are likely? Star94 being an FM simulcast of the Zone for an FM sports talker? Blowing up True Oldies and doing a double-FM cast of Kicks? V103 going on the 92.9 signal? B98 turning to a River simulcast?

Here's a clue. Look for FM signals that still have local talent on in the morning who still make over 40k/year and who are still trying to do content. Those are the stations that will be blown out to make way for simulcasts.

Remember that most of CC's CHR's were inherited from Jacor and AM/FM. The current regime has been responsible for keeping some of those heritage stations going (Z-100, KIIS, Y-100 and others) but they don't have much of a track record of launching new CHR's. They have done a great job of protecting their heritage stations against recent attacks by CBS. But that depends on how good you think Dom Theodore is who is spearheading those attempts. Most people I know consider him a lightweight against the people he's going against. Attempts in markets like Jacksonville and others have been a mixed success at best. So don't assume CC knows how to launch a CHR. This could very well be their best attempt.

I'm not fascinated with the new logo, but it looks better than the disco balls. That was a total misrepresentation of what music the station was playing.

I'm surpised that CC hasn't applied to move one of the 105's out of the market so they can move the other all teh way into town. What's better? 2 rimshots or one that completely covers the market?

Could "Clear Channel" pull off a trimulcast down the road?
With what triad?

Unless this is to see if Groove can get more share with more signal before blowing up one of the 100k's. CC likes The Bull and Project has no direct competition (some overlap with Rock100.5, but not much playlist-wise and probably less in the demos)

Has CC ever been successful in any market knocking off--or at least showing up against--a heritage news/talker with Rush Radio on FM?
