96.7 WCTZ gets CP for new tower in Long island

I was surfing around the FCC website to find that 96.7 WCTZ now has a construction Permit good until 5/28/2011 to get a new signal on the air from Long Island IMHO Goodbye! stamford RF interference ;D

I still don't see why this move is even necessary to begin with. They are a Stamford station, NOT New York.

If I recall correctly, they had their city of license changed to Port Chester.

I really want to know how many years are they going to call themselves the "new" coast?

The predicted new coverage pattern barely touches Greenwich with a local signal..so I'm not sure if they are planning to keep it as a Stamford station or not..It would seem pointless not to serve the Nassau/NYC area with their new signal..you can never quite understand what these companies want to do lol.

Maybe Nassau Broadcasting was planning on buying it ;D
... a little inside joke

This is kind of like WFAS-FM 103.9 changing their city of license from White Plains to Bronxville. I just don't get it.

It's simple, they want to eventually move these signals closer to the NYC market to increase their perceived value.

I doubt that they remain AC when they move, as their coverage will be almost identical to WKJY 98.3, and will be competing with them and 106.7 Lite FM, 97.5 WALK, Star and WEBE and WHUD 100.7. Guess the new format

Keep in mind that Cox already has a cluster on Long Island. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to integrate WCTZ into that cluster rather than make it a New York City station.

I have a strange feeling it is going to be a simulcast of WBLI......Remember WBLI does not have a good signal to the west b/c of 105.9 WCAA.....96.7/106.1 together will give WBLI coverage of just about the entire island plus NYC, Westchster & NE Jersey.

If I had to take a guess thats what will probably happen. a WBLI silmilcast. especially with ryan seacrest comming to z100 yuck! WBLI has a more broader playlist then the Z and the do show in the arbitrons in NYC very vaguely. I get WBLI clearly in the Greenwich/Stamford area where it steps right over 105.9 and 106.3 both which have a booming signal too in the Greenwich Ct area on my walkemen! I miss listening to the WPDH simulcast on 106.3 I just wish if this were to happen WBLI would get all live dj's and put it in z's face saying were live 24/7 with local dj's ;D

on the other hand:
K 104 tried a simulcast on 107.1 now the peak and I guess it did not go well so they became 107.1 the peak world class rock. I don't think I'm I ever going to see active rock in NYC aka Pure Rock where you have harder edged music
