Not yet, but Ron has donated his collection of "A KVIL Christmas" albums from 1982-86 for immediate airplay. ;D
 
Good Lord, thats a receipe for radio disaster, something that even tops the "golden throats" compliations from rhino records...

It hadn't as of this morning, and I am out of town for the weekend. But I am eagerly awaiting it - when I hear what passes for Christmas music on KVIL, I am tempted to call it Christless instead of Christmas. Have yourself a secular little Christmas type of stuff. Perhaps Ron will allow Christmas carols - remember those? You know, real Christmas music that isn't afraid to acknowledge the Christian roots and nature of the holiday.

Actually that's the best way to do it, since Christmas is still quite a few weeks away, and considering it's too early to be doing solid Christmas anyway. So it's done with a compromise. Start with the non-religious stuff now, and then add the more religious material as December 25th nears.
 
The new female voice that sings "96.7..." I keep expecting her to sing "The Wa-a-a-ve" after it. I don't listen regularly but I hear it when I scan by...
 
Already hearing some sporadic Christmas holiday songs being phased in on Plat as of last night.
 
I am in Mississippi and have been listening to Platinum 96.7 on the internet and I and for those of you who were wondering if they went to Christmas Music they started at 12 Midnight on Black Friday.

By the way, for all of you who are wondering where all the local commercials are and listen online are they have been blocking the local commercials and the once per hour ID to listeners on the internet and substituting other commercials of national importance.

Yeah, they kind of have to do that because most commercial contracts don't include rebroadcast over the Internet.

As to the Christmas music issue, so far it's nice that they only play one or two an hour. I would imagine that will increase the closer we get to Christmas, but that's the way radio used to do it - get you into the spirit gradually, instead of beating you over the head with it two weeks before Thanksgiving.

I even think Ron Chapman calls it "Christmas" music instead of "holiday" music. In the immortal words of the Kung Pao Buckaroos, "I don't care who we offend..." :eek:

If you are living in the United States, the predominant faith is Christianity. So - I think the right thing to do if you are of a different faith is just to go with the flow, realize that it is part of American culture, and not have a hang up about it. I send Christmas cards to people of other faiths, they send Christmas cards to me. And mean it when they wish me a Merry Christmas. If you are not delighted with who and what you are, you are going to be a miserable person. If you are so insecure with yourself that the mere mention of Christmas is a threat, then I feel sorry for you. There are many secular reasons to celebrate Christmas that have nothing to do with religion - unless peace and goodwill to men - ALL men - is offensive to you for some reason.

So - Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
 
Quite frankly, I think it's silly how this same "political correctness" terminology debate comes up every year at this time. It seems to me the ones who are more fixated on this issue, are those who insist it be called Christmas music. This year we have an economic crises of dire proportions, and yet this ridiculous debate continues? I say where are our priorities? It's not going to be a merry anything this year for a large number of those who have lost their jobs and financial stability.

Uh - since when does calling it "holiday music" instead of Christmas music do anything at all to help the unfortunate folks who have lost their jobs this year? If anything - the Christmas spirit - in particular spurring Christmas shopping - ought to do a lot to help the dire condition most retail stores are in.

Now - it might not make old Ebeneezer Scrooge very happy to have fools like me go around with Merry Christmas on my lips - hopefully some crazy doesn't try to bury me with a stake of holly through my heart!

I can't believe you asked that question. That should be extremely obvious. The economy is very unstable this year, and thousands upon thousands of people have lost their jobs as a result. How do you expect those people to spend money this season, when they have little to no money from being out of work? Rather than toys, do you know that a lot of the kids visiting Santa at the mall this year are asking for Santa to bring their parents work so they can earn money?

None of this has anything to do with whether we call it Christmas Music or Holiday Music. That argument by itself is silly. Call it what you want to call it, and be done with it, and don't start insisting other people call it what you want them to call it. This is such a ridiculously trivial topic, along the same lines as how to hang the toilet paper. ::)
