I heard this while travelling through Desoto County yesterday and it was simulcasting V101. Is this some sort of translator and why would it be carrying V when V has a really good signal through the area? I could understand if it were carrying an AM station.

Yes. It is a translator. 250W directional about 1000' up the TV tower in NE Shelby County.

I suspect carrying 101.1 is temporary. It made the application paperwork easier, I suspect. Look for it to translate an AM -- likely WDIA -- before too long.

Yes I heard the same thing and wondered who would simulcast V101? My question has been answered. Sometimes you hear things like that when translators are involved. So dont be shocked to hear more of this in the future.

That's what I think, too, especially with WDIA taking a beating since the PPM era began in Memphis.

Sadly, no one in high position at CC the last few years knew or, if they did, cared one wit about what was the core of WDIA...serving and being the voice of the African American community in Memphis.
