96.9/97.1 FM

Of course they could've. But why would you downgrade it? Simulcast 96.9 and 97.1 together at both stations' current power much like they currently do 106.9 and 107.5. Your station moniker would simply be "Country Legends 97".

97.1 has plenty of power over Houston, way out on the far West side it punches through on a $17 SRF-59. I don't know how they do SW, though.

I am glad country fans have a country oldies station. Still waiting for a real oldies station for non-country. Maybe I write the owners of KONO and KLUV and beg them some more to come into Houston.

KONO is Cox, and they could do better with an oldies like KONO if they had a signal to put it on....

KHPT would be a very comparable signal to that of KONO-FM. Both are strong rimshots from the not so distant "suburban" town. KONO-FM in Helotes, KHPT in Conroe.

KONO is hardly the rimshot it was 15 or so years ago. Its signal is on the west side of San Antonio and either on the same tower as or right next to San Antonio licensed KAJA. KONO-FM moved from Fredricksburg to Helotes and downgraded to a C1 with the intention of moving to that tower. Of course, the signal that could be heard almost all the way out to San Angelo was gone, but it got to citygrade more of San Antonio.

KHPT isn't so well equipped as its tower is located near Cleveland and well outside of town. It's also not going to be nearly as easy to upgrade with 106.5 and even sister station 107.5.

Just curious. Could Cox have purchased 96.9, downgraded it somewhat, and moved the 97.1 tower more south.

Probably not. Second adjacent issues with KFNC 97.5.

Perhaps Cox should have grabbed 92.1 in 2004 instead of Radio One, and reinstated the 92.1/97.1 simulcast that existed between 1992 and 1995.

The KHPT transmitter is near Splendora, about 35 miles NNE of downtown Houston. KTHT is near Shepherd, some 21 miles further out.

Why not move the Country Legends format to KHPT and sell KTHT? There is some serious overlap between KHPT and KGLK, so serious that they are both in Stereo in Katy. Country Legends could get more listeners with a better signal.

What are you talking about KTN? The overlap on KHPT and KGLK is a simulcast created by Cox to increase coverage of The Eagle. There is no way in hell Cox is going to consider moving any format or changing anything on 106-9 right now. It's the reason The Eagle has been giving The Arrow a run for it money lately.
