96.9 Sold

This will help solve the signal issues KSBJ has to the southwest. Quite a bit of signal overlap with sister KXBJ in Victoria, however.

Doubt that it would become NGEN. Perhaps this opens the door for the 99.5 Sugar Land translator to switch to an HD2 simulcast?

Liberman's "Baila" format (which has been running on 96.9) was always marginalized as filler on 880 and 1230 between LMA contracts. Wonder what happens to those signals? Not sure I see much point in Liberman hanging on to them.

Also have to wonder if KXGJ 101.7 might be on the block. Similar coverage area to 96.9.

I would think Liberman keeps KJOJ 103.3 due to already having a CP to upgrade, although we've been waiting for that to happen seemingly forever.

Anyway, congrats to KSBJ on expanding its coverage.

Whoops, forgot about KZBJ 89.5 in Bay City, spoke too soon. Maybe that or 96.9 become NGEN.

My guess since 89.5 and 96.9's singals do have "a lot" of overlap.. that one of them will go to NGEN .. My guess is that 89.5 will go NGEN and 96.9 will become KSBJ Repeater -- 96.9 has a bigger coverage area for their "CCM" format (and 96.9 fills the gaps in between KXBJ Victoria and KSBJ Houston.

How good is the KZBJ 89.5 signal? Don't recall ever hearing it at my Cy-Fair location, even when tropo is kicking in (more likely to get KMFA out of Austin.) The KSBJ IBOC sidebands probably drown it out here during normal reception conditions.

I would think that 96.9 might be more likely for NGEN as it at least covers part of Houston, while 89.5 doesn't quite make it...unless NGEN winds up on the 99.5 Sugar Land translator.

They could keep both signals the same format. Kind of like what Air one did on KZAR and KRNZ. Both signals over lap each other, but are on the same format.

I just don't see that happening. The coverage areas of 89.5 and 96.9 are too similar. And they still have KXBJ covering the Victoria area. The 96.9 signal does better into southwest Houston metro, however. Still thinking NGEN for 89.5, unless KSBJ is thinking of selling the station.

The KZAR and KRNZ overlap makes no sense. Perhaps EMF is waiting for listeners to migrate from 88.1 to 97.7 before flipping 88.1 to the sister K-Love format.

I can't get 89.5 in Southwest Houston, but I sure can get 96.9.

My guess is we'll either have NGEN on 96.9 or on the Sugar Land translator at some point. NGEN is a great station that deserves to be heard!

Which it is not - because it is on the black hole of HD radio, on a stick that doesn't cover the West parts of the Houston area very well as it is, even if you don't consider HD. I cannot get HD lock on KSBJ in my house with an indoor antenna, even with the Sony wonder tuner. And HOA won't let me put an antenna outside. Put NGEN on 96.9, which I get just fine with an indoor antenna! KSBJ's normal format is unlistenable to me. I'm only 57 - I didn't grow up on hymns or praise and worship. I don't listen to the Christian equivalent of Delilah! The normal KSBJ format is not what I contributed money to support when it was under the wise leadership of Buddy Holiday! It was actually fun to listen to. With NGEN, maybe I could finally dump the secular music for good.

96.9 is in HD, so is 101.7. I guess so the cows can hear HD radio? I am about 35 or so miles from it and even then it is flaky. I can get Houston HD from the SR farm tower better than I can on 96.9.

Looks like the FCC approved the sale yesterday, so we should be hearing something different on this frequency soon.

Also keep an ear on KZBJ 89.5 Bay City and the 99.5 Sugar Land translator, which might flip to NGEN at or around the same time.

Also I would think a call change might happen for 96.9. Although calls are less important in a PPM world, KSBJ seems to like unified branding for most of its stations.

They didn't bother changing KWUP in Navasota when they acquired it. We'll see what happens when it closes. No word on when that's going to happen.

Actually, they did change Navasota when they bought it. But, they applied for the call before it went back on the air after being dark for almost a year. The target audience was the A&M crowd. Thus, K-Whooop!

Should be interesting radio, could be the closest thing Victoria will have to a Hip Hop station.

i noticed the rds is off on knte could the time be near?
