In reply to an opinion regarding the release of Bill Scull, WCRZX talked about how important marketing is for a station's success. How right he is. (I'm assuming WCRZX is a guy)I guess I was grand-fathered in from the old Cool's loyal listener club to Eagle's. But over the past few weeks I've received what I consider some very effective pieces of informaiton from the station. The Eagle Island promotion appears to be a good way of getting the station's identification into a rather clever audience participation. But it takes bucks from corporate to make that happen. A shame the new KOOL didn't seem to get much of anything in the way of marketing and promotional dollars.Back to Eagle, I recently received information about rating songs on their playlist and then got news that based on listener preferences, the music was updated etc. Even if this is just hype, it's a pretty effective way to at least make listeners think they are making a difference. And really, with the exception of overplaying Elton and Fleetwood Mac, I think they do a great job delivering a consistant sound and that's a critical elment in setting audience expectations. And that is a major problem with KOOL - little consistancy. Finally, I'm rather impressed with Jodi Stewart. I think she's the best personality on the station. In the little amount of time I do spend listening, I notice she says something timely about a song just played and she manages to inject a great on-air personality. And she does this all in less than a minute and makes it sound so natural and effortless. She could do well in morning drive I am sure.Everywhere I seem to go lately, I hear a lot of radio stations tuned to Eagle. It would not surprise me if they do even better in the next trend/book.
