96.9/The River will float away on 5/1

I don't get this one. Another bad decision in the KXLY building. Another in a long line of weird half cocked decisions...I can name 10 since I left there! Why can't they ever do anything original there? Country? CHR/R? How about filling one of the many gapping holes in Spokane; like Oldies or FM-News/Talk. 101.1FM is NOT Oldies! How about filling that hole? KXLY already has the resources to do good news/talk, why not do that on 96.9?

Spokane's River is about to turn HOT!!

Here's the details...

From radioinsight.com

Update 5/2: The station will be flipping to Rhythmic CHR “Hot 96.9” at any moment. Facebook and Twitter accounts are live promoting the station as “Spokane’s Hottest Music”.

Original Report 4/20: Morgan Murphy Media’s AAA “96.9 The River” KEZE Spokane, WA will be shifting to Rhythmic CHR in early May. KEZE Music Director Kristen Kurtis was let go in preparation for the format change. In addition to The River, Morgan Murphy owns “ESPN 700 The Ticket” KXLX, News/Talk 920 KXLY, Oldies “Mighty 1080” KVNI, Adult CHR 92.9 KZZU, Active Rock “Rock 94 1/2” KHTQ, “Big 99.9 Coyote Country” KXLY-FM, and “ABC 4” KXLY-TV in the Spokane market.

There you go people! Spokane now has a three-way Hip Hop and CHR battle!

Re: Spokane's River is about to turn HOT!!

Oh YAY (insert sarcasm)

Here we go again with the Rhythmic format in Spokane. Third attempt at it in the last 10 years by Morgan Murphy or Citadel/Mapleton. That's not including current rimshot 104.5 KGZG and its own rhythmic serving about half the Spokane market.

Wake me up when Morgan Murphy bails on it again after 2 years and we're discussing the next format on KEZE. History shows they couldn't sell one rhythmic by itself in Spokane. Now Spokane gets multiple. The only possible logic here is to try to pummel KGZG into the financial red. Thus, knocking them out of business.

Shall we get an early start on the speculation about the impending format flip coming 2013 on 96.9?

Prediction: As long as the folks at Pendleton Broadcasting remain financially healthy, KGZG and its "JAMZ" will outlast this "HOT 96.9" incarnation.

This is what 96.9 is waiting for...

Fly on the wall in the building hears that the fate of `96.9` is in the arbiron gods hands!

Gm and VP will not clear the flip before taking a nice look at the winter arbitron ratings which arrive Thursday morning. Smart move... don't want to flush a station right before a ratings release!

Seems like a few more leaks to all access are all that they can do for now. I'm sure there is excitement in the building.. but nothing is a go until its a go.. so yet again another miscue!

Besides `Hot 96.9 Spokane Hottest Music` sounds Top 40 Chr-ish to me! You really thing you can take back the shares KZBD took from ZZU.... lol

This will be fun to watch 3 stations all with 3 shares waiting for each other to blink... even more funny if the river keps flowing lol

Well the station flipped today at about 3 pm...Spokane's River is now Hot 96-9, Spokane's Hottest Music. So far the station sounds pretty good. I kind of wish they would've just gone back to Wired 96-9, but I believe they can make this "Hot 96-9" work if they put enough effort into it. Perhaps all three stations (KEZE, KGZG, KZBD) will be able to hold a pretty good audience??

I think its kind of funny that a year ago, there was no Hip Hop or CHR music on the radio in Spokane at all. Now here in 2011, we've got two Rhythmics and a CHR.

Any word on any talent coming to the new Hot 96-9? A morning show?? will Jackie Brown make the move from ZZU, over to Hot?

People actually consider KGZG a station? Last I heard, which was awhile ago, it was just playing a top30 playlist over and over to hold the license. Is it more of a station now? Did it sell or does the lawyer lady still own it?

Yes besides a few glitches... like Ben Harper playing and website with no content.. The war has begun. Sounds like they are targeting Jamz musically while taking on air shots at 1057 by name. This will be interesting.

kzzu should just go back to modern rock and then hot96 chr top rythmic can stay 105.7 top 40 and 104.5 rythmic canstay too or do what ever they want too I don't care
