96 Rock Cincinatti's Pure rock

Its on! It sounds and the logo looks exactly like the old Rock 106 in Toledo. There taking on WEBN. Looks like they got a task on there hands.

This is for the people that doubt me....hmmmm....didnt I say yesterday the name would be 96 Rock? I also said that WGTZ would be Adult Hits and I got my ass laughed at. Interesting?

Actually while they might sound like a uphill battle, Cumulus will do some good things here in Cincinnati. WEBN is weak in many areas, dont be too shocked to see them actually kick some ass.

I predict this will be the end of 949 The Sound. Either Bonneville will flip it to Movin or a LoveFM format like they have in Chicago.

For the life of me I don't understand why they didn't try to go with more of a Classic Rock feel that does actually rock. This sounds just like EBN without the ribbets. Fox music stops at the end of the 70's for the most part and ignores rockers from the 80's on. You could play some new stuff but play music like.....
Def Leppard
Whitesnake
Judas Priest
Poison
Ratt
Rush
Genesis
Guns and Roses
Scorpions
Cinderella
Kiss
Bon Jovi
AC DC
Cheap Trick
et al
This would do great with upper 25-54 men and pull in a good share of women, too. In the end you take away a good chunk of EBN's audience and render FOX almost impotent. Besides, most big markets have a station that programs like this already. I would tune in a lot because most of this new rock just doesn't do it for me. The majority of the singers sound exactly the same and the music is for the most part uninspired. I try to find things that interest me about new rock but the songs I actually like are few and far between. I like Wolfmother, Buck Cherry and few others but to me most are just soundalike cookie cutter nonsense. Just my thoughts..

CC has the Brew in Columbus. Maybe 103.5 could fill that gap later on down the road. I was hoping for a Classic Rocker that Rocks on 96.5. Cumulus has The Bone format in Dallas TX. 96.5 The Bone in Cincinnati would have done just what you're saying Flavin.

Glad to see I'm not alone in my thoughts! Btw, I've heard nothing in the first hour that would lead me to believe that they'll be any kind of threat at all to the Frog. This will do about that same as New Rock 97.3 did. 2 shares with gusts up to 2.5. What a shame.

They could beat WEBN with the right air talent and promotions. Its going to be interesting to hear 2AG with this format.

Wonderful. They are chasing a demo who relies less and less on radio for music in a market that is over-saturated with stations in the format using a handle (96 Rock) that no one in their target audience remembers because they were still in diapers or not even born during its first life.

Triple-A would have been a much better choice.

God i hope that the sound does not go anywhere i enjoy them when i am in cincinnati. There numbers seem to do really well!!! And i am not in columbus very much but love cd 101 and hope they stay around!!!Lets hope pure rock hurts webn clear channel!!!They need to take some hits. They got rid of this talk show host in louisville that has been on 84 whas for 14 years and they said good bye to a tradition down here. They put a syndicated talk show on michael savage in its place...The 9pm-12am had been local since the 50s thanks clear channel but back to the matter at hand i love there moniker angry in the morning pissed off all day i think very clever.

Yes, they could beat WEBN - as long as the air talent on 96 Rock doesn't have an average age like that of a dinosaur.

I hope not, I enjoy the Sound even though they are getting too mainstream for me with Finger Eleven and Papa Roach all the time. I suppose with the return of 97X I can handle it, but what if I only have an analog radio, like in the car? I will miss Andy's show though. Maybe they can have a three-person morning show, Angries plus the Furball.

Cumulus should've went country. Yes, Bonneville has WUBE. But WYGY, a class A (2550watts) is sucking. WFTK, a Class B (19kw) would've take down WYGY, and even give WUBE some competition. More $$$ in country demos than rock demos, especially the 18-34s

Country = Cash.

Andy Furman is gone from 96.5. It will be just the Angry's in morning drive. It's rumored that he is returning to WLW 3-6pm though.

VODood...where have you been for the past 13 years? 96.5 was country since 1993 and was never a consistent threat to B-105. And as microbob stated, WYGY is applying for a 10-fold power increase.

This new format is a little too hard for me.

Re: 96 Rock Cincinatti's Pure rock (By the way, it's Cincinnati)

Call letter change doesn't mean anything when a station doesn't use them outside of the ID. They probably would have changed them already

Here is my two cents on the station. It will affect the Sound but only in a minor sense of the word. The biggest station it will screw is WEBN which has been sleepy for quite sometime. Clear Channel has made a mess of WEBN and its time someone put it in its place.

Bonneville may flip the Sound, but I highly doubt it. Bonneville likes the stations approach, its a niche alternative and those folks wont flip over to 96 Rock just because...no..they want to hear Indy music, Finger Eleven and Sick Puppies all together.

WFTK is ACTIVE ROCK
WEBN is ACTIVE ROCK
WSWD is ALTERNATIVE

See the difference?

Rumor is it wasn't an option. They reportedly had a non-comp with Entercom/Bonneville specifically prohibiting country as a result of their selling WYGY to them. Besides, as has been mentioned, country at 96.5 never made any ground competing against WUBE.
