96 Rock Orlando

Once upon a time there was a 96 Rock in Atlanta. Now we have 96 Rock here in O-town. Tweaked and re-branded. Similar to what just happened up the road in Jacksonville to legendary Rock 105, now Rock 1045.

This should be interesting to see how they handle WJRR.

96 ROCK, 104.1 and JRR playing rock on the weekends ... life ain't so bad. Gotta tell ya though, I must have heard an AC/DC song every hour.

What 96 needs to do is a bit of personality shuffle ... why not bring back Slats for the PM drive - I'd listen.

Me llamo Slatz. Great idea. All that great rock out there and these 3 stations are pounding the same AC/DC, Def Leppard, Floyd tunes......ugh!!!

anybody remember whoo-fm at 96.5 circa 1974? country flavored beautiful music-chet atkins, floyd cramer, danny davis and the nashville brass, ray price. no d.j's ...just seguing records.

There was a very similar format in the early 80s on WRAV-FM 92.1 Venice, Florida, known as Beautiful Country. I don't remember the format on WHOO-FM in 1974; However, I do remember the beautiful music format on 96.5 prior to the format change to country as "Hits 96" sometime around 1983.

Checked the online playlist today, between 2pm and 8pm you were guaranteed to hear 2 out of 3 artists from this list every hour: AC/DC, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin ... almost as good a guarantee that if you listen to Sunny for 2 hours straight you'll hear "Brick House". At least I've got Slats to tune into.

On the 96.5 being BM in 1983...that was actually WDBO FM, it was playing BM when it changed to country in 1/83...HOO Fm was already playing country, the old 3 in ia row format...while HOO - AM was country with personality

I would have thought that WHTQ with all of their new hoopla would have created something more then the old previous and present morning show, so nothing has really changed.

I remember when WDBO-FM became WWKA in 1983. Perhaps it was 1981 when WHOO-FM changed from beautiful music to country. It was 1987 when WHOO became AOR WHTQ as Q96.

Creating WHTQ in February 1987 was a broadcasting highlight for me.
Bluegrass Broadcasting was top notch and provided everything we needed
to win. A killer launch airstaff with Tommy Griffiths/Paul Castronovo (mornings),
Rick Bavec (middays), Slats (PM Drive) and the legendary Mike Lyons (nights) -

Then along came TK Communications and it was over in a flash. But, still
great to see the frequency in the capable hands of Cox Radio now -
