96 rock

i am listning to 96 rock right now and i have to ask. what happened?? this was once a great radio station. they once played new music. they once played mothers finest! now they play 200 songs over and over again. does clear channel destroy everything they touch? i still have my old 80s-early 90s airchecks but thats all. maybe someone will buy them one day and turn it around and start playing some new stuff again. oh well thats my thoughts. whats yours?

Smashedcd, I have asked myself the same question. I can remember listening to
96Rock as a teenager and it was a great station to listen to. The Wake-up
Crew was ten times better the Regular Guys. TRG are just too obnoxius to listen
to in the morning. I even took 96Rock off of my preset in the car. Some new
stuff would be great and expand the old stuff and I remember they use to have the
" Perfrect Album Side" and "Two for Tuesday." It is a shame to see what was once a
great radio station go down hill like this.

The main reason I got a subscription to Sirius is because of what an awful station 96Rock has become. Both The Wake Up Crew & Christopher Rude where better morning shows than The Regular Guys.

I am a 39 old male who started listening to 96Rock in early 1980s. Up until this decade, they where a great rock station. The playlist was a variety of tunes from 1960s to 1990s with new tunes mixed in.

I dont know what the suits at Clear Channel and consultants they use are thinking when it comes to 96rock these days.

When 96rock was in it's hey day, there was NO competition. No 99x, no Buzz, no Dave, or Z. Although, I still thought 96rock was great 8/9 years ago with the Rg's in the morning, Ditch doing middays, Chris Rude in afternoons, and Tim Rhodes doing nights, followed by Loveline with Adam Corrolla. They still played new and classic rock, including the 80's at 8, and weekend features.

when i was in atlanta rude was a part of the wakeup crew. i have an aircheck that has all of the above on it. the perfect album side. two fer tuesday and the wake-up crew. the wake up crew were promoing the upcoming bunny shoot :)..two fers from robert plant, joe saturani and aerosmith..the robert plant was new from manic nirvana. it even has monty python..sit on my face on it :)..and jeff foxworthy before anyone even knew who the heck he was..z was already on the air. actually 96 rock now sounds like z then except with a tighter playlist.

I forgot to add in my orginal comment: 96Rock has changed afternoon/drive home shows 4 times since 2001. Rude Ride Home, Dick & Justice, Southside & Rhodes, Jennifer Reed(Current). Another reason the station has lost its appeal.

Oh God I miss those days. During that time, 96Rock was untouchable. These days they're untouchable, but for different reasons. Ick poo.

I will say that I still enjoy Eric pontificating, but Larry has really dragged himself into a deep ditch. I swear to all that's good if I hear him chewing and smacking food as a bit one more time I'm going to take a dump on the roof of his car and let the sun bake it into the paint job.

You can't be serious. Eric's terribly grating. Tune into Graves radio today. I can't remember the time because I've been busy working an ice pick at my temporal lobe trying to gut any memories of his show out of there.

It's some time in the afternoon when the "Master E and his (sic)ofants" show comes on. [EDIT]

Larry sounds bad because his partner wants him to. Simple as that. I don't care the reasons-- sure, Larry's very likely an azz. But he can be very funny. Master E is preventing that whether he knows it or not.

[EDIT=inappropriate language.]

I don't know what they play today since I don't listen to music on the radio much, but if I heard Mother's Finest I'd probably break my arm trying to change the station too quickly.

Yes, I am. I like him, you don't. Simple as that.

Listen today and tell me if you feel the same. I'd be interested. My guess, because of the nature of a forum like this, it'd not be possible for you to come back and say, "Hey, you know. He does get grating." Don't really hold it against you or anyone. It's the "pee-pee contest" environment of these kind of boards.

And, by the way, moderate man, re: my post above--

One suckling a teat, hairy or otherwise, is NOT a sexual act. It's an act of NURTURING. See, the point of saying such a thing would be to create in one's mind's eye the image of babes drinking (intellect? approval? Your choice) from their creator. Not dirty. You think so, come up from mom's basement, and dump all her naughty dairy products out of her fridge.

The first month I worked at 96 Rock(1986) the station hit #1 12+! It was a fantastic book....dominating males, any age, and heavy female numbers, 25+. Bill Wise was PD, Mark McCain and Steve Mitchell, along with Rob Buttery(Popeye) were the wakeup crew(Along with Kelly doin' news). John Boy Bryant did mid days and Kaedy did afternoons. Willard was just smokin' at nights.....it was a great staff! The music was too "commercial" to win awards for cutting edge but Bill knew what to play to get numbers.
Even the weekend staff...Beth Kepple, Greg Clarkson, and others were great!
96 Rock has never been what it was in the Taft/Great American days.
When Jacor bought Great American it was all over. Randy Michaels personally took charge of ruining a great rock station.....cause Randy is a rich, fat guy, who, in his forties still plays with potatoe cannons and hookers. He may be really smart....I'm not saying he's not....but he has the mentallity of a fat kid wanting attention and that is the signature sound of Jacor/ClearChannel rock formats to this day.
96 Rock was in it's heyday as a rock station in the 70's. But then....it seems like EVERY station was better back then ......

I won't. I've been listening to the RG for the last 10 years. Why would I wake up one morning and say, "Damn Eric, you suck." If someone has changed on the show it's Larry. He's not the same guy I loved listening to 10 years ago, and that's not a slam on him. Just my opinion. Like I said, I enjoy listening to Eric and you don't. Period.

I recently saw Greg acting in an in house training video for The Home Depot.
