960 Mount Pocono towers...GONE

The four tower array for the old WPMR (nee WPCN) at the intersection of 380 & 80 has been completely dismantled.

Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long.

The radio station that arguably never should have been, is now completely erased.

RIP.

At one point WPMR was the closest unheard station to my newer digs near Pottsville. I'd hear WHYL Carlisle, and the station from Sayre PA. I even heard WELI New Haven one sunset, WFIR Roanoke, and WEAV Plattsburg NY.
No WPMR. Ever. They pulled it in away from Carlisle. Lucky me lived along the same line, in between the two.

One NIGHT though, I heard some pop music station atop 960 with mentions on a spot for 'Stroudsburg'. I was stunned. Got a good tape of 'em too. They were simulcasting WSBG 93.5. I would imagine they shot a bit of signal my way, at least at night, because they practically became a pest.

Odd little station. At least I caught them before they went poof.
