96rock- Country?

I don't know how many of you receive emails from 96rock, but in today's edition there was something I thought was rather odd at the end...

P.S. - There's a rumor that 96rock is going country... We don't think it's true but if it is we'll let you know. Check your email often for any info we'll send you.

Have any of you even heard this rumor?
What would you think of that? I doubt there is anything to it. That would be a stupid decesion- they would never be able to compete against Kicks and it would leave Atlanta without Classic Rock. However, the Braves and The Regular Guys would still fit in alright. Clear Channel should worry about WGST & The Buzz before making any changes to WKLS.
Edited by 96atl on 09/22/05 03:37 AM.

You think they hired Buzz Casey for country?
______________

Have you ever been around during a format change? Or witnessed one? Usually, they don't even tell THE STAFF about it.

You think they'd drop it in an email?

Second-- THIS is where rumors start. This board right here. Not an email. No one's heard boo about it.

Third-- Is there a "hole" in this market for country? Absolutely not.

this is just a way of trying to generate talk.

I agree. they never tell you! But then again, this is Clear Channel we are talking about.

Since Miss Anthrope brought it up.....

If there is a hole in this market. What format is it? Exclude oldies like the old Fox, and Cool. Even though I miss the format, I think it's been well covered in the thread below.

Second question. Since we're talking about 96 Rock. what do you guys think would make 96 rock better?

For the sake of conversation....
______________

I don't really believe it. This thread is just to point out the oddness of putting something like that in their email (I realize it generates talk). Although, I would hope that a station that has been around 31 years would give a heads up to their fans (something along the lines of what Cool did back in May- although I realize that is rare). I think the main thing on 96rock that needs to be changed is they need to get rid of the few voice-tracked jocks they have and replace them with local djs. Maybe add some speciality shows (they shouldn't have gotten rid of Psychedelic Psunday).

I agree about the voice-tracked DJ's. Having live Dj's would give the station a more local feel, and a sense of community. 96 rock defintely needs a synergy of some kind. Very bland, and generic. Doesn't have that "ROCK" station feel. I grew up listening to WNEW, and WPLJ in NYC. In college it was WYSP, and WMMR in Philly. Now those were "ROCK" stations. Top notch personalities, and each of them refelected their perspective cities rock community. Maybe those days are gone. I also think that 96 should turn The Regular Guys loose, or at least give them a little more slack on the leash. A lot of talent, and potential there. Invest in the show. maybe hire a liberal to drive Larry Wachs, who right now is carrying the show. Last but not least, Southside, and Rhodes, Both are talented, but ....well, it doesn't work for me.
______________

The problem with Southside and Rhodes is that they are both sidekick-type personalities. Neither one can carry the show and it makes it painful to listen to at times.

Does anyone know who is Voice Tracked on 96 Rock? I figure the night guy is - but, outside of that...?

Big Rig (nights) is voice-tracked on 96rock and many other classic rock/rock stations. PD Buzz Casey is filling in for him tonight. I think Buzz should maybe just take over this slot since it is only around about 1/2 the year because of The Braves.

The other 2 voicetracked jocks are on weekends only- JT & Cousin Deke.
All the rest are local (Regular Guys, Fin, Southside & Rhodes, English Nick, Geoff Cole, and Murray).
Edited by 96atl on 09/23/05 12:38 AM.

JT is local... and actually does his show live.

They need to give him more than one hour a week. The one hour he does is quite good, always has interesting things to talk about.
