96Rock Going Classic Rock?

This is not another one of those "Which station is going Oldies type threads", but the past couple of days Ive been hearing 96Rock promoting the Classic Rock they play in between songs like, "Everything That Rocks would be nothing without the Classics", and "96Rock plays the best Classic Rock like this" then they would play a Classic Rock song. Then I was listening to them last night and in between songs I heard "96Rock The Home Of Killer Classic Rock". They also cut down on the new rock that they were playing. Was wondering if you have also noticed this. Could this be a sign of what 102.5 is going to be?

96Rock has really become a "heritage" brand...yes, it's from 1998, but in today's world any station over 10 years old is heritage. And it's gone from straight AOR, to Active, back to AOR, alternative, and everything that rocks (modern-day AOR).

I can't see them blowing up the only rock station in town (and a good one IMO) when the market is to themselves! Maybe put classic rock on 96.1 and leave the modern stuff to the lower powered 102.5.

Makes good sense to me!

Maybe they're trying to reach out to the [disenfranchised feeling] classic rock fans and reminding them that they play classic rock, too?
It also might be all just to make Blade feel better. :)

or they're knee-jerking because the river popped in early ppm results

I don't know that anyone is knee-jerking. 96 Rock is doing considerably better than the River right now.

"100.7 seems like they are half classic hits, half classic rock.."

Which half is which and how would we know the difference?

August PPM shows 96.1 #6 and rising A25-54 and 100.7 #11 and slipping. River has no soul and no direction.

Aug and Sept PPM show men ruled by NPR, G105 and Rush Radio. At least in mornings which is all I got to see. Going classic rock sounds good. They are not personality driven anymore. no offense. It's jut than all they have the jocks do is promote station stuff and contests.

Actually, Men 18+ total week is a logjam at the top.
Less than 2 shares seperate 1st and 6th place. 96 Rock is #5.
Foxy is #1

Sure it is but the stations have not moved. 96 has never been higher than 5 and the top 3 are npr with g and rush moving from 2 to 3 and the last 2 weeks they have been tied for 2nd.

I joined this board because I thought it would be cool to have professonal discussions about radio. I don't hate any of the stations. I listen to g, 96, rush (only in the morning) and even do the country and rvr stations. It seems that all of you do not do anything but b*tch about radio groups and try to back up those feelings with stats which you don't present correctly. CMG as a group is going badly. They have lots of good talent but the management is making all the wrong decisions in my opinion. Just like it was stupid for CC to put that country station on before the Rush format. That is my professional opinion. If I am wrong then fine. But it would be nice to analyze and predict outcomes instead of acting like kids who got their feelings hurt and can't deal.

Wow dude. Where'd you read all that into it?
There's only been one reply to anything you've said on this thread.
It didn't seem all that offensive.

Bachman said he "hadn't seen anything but morning numbers". I was just offering up some vague
total week info. He does seem a little edgy. ???

Dude, I did not mean to seem edgy. I just see a lot of negative stuff said about CC and it just pisses me off because it is like we cant really even talk about stuff. Curtis is killing all of their talent. 96 has awesome jocks who sound like crap because Curtis does not understand what good radio is. That consultant he has Harland is worthless.

I hate to see good talent wasted because management doesn't know anything but aren't big enough to admit it and try to learn. The same thing with ZTk. Awsome talent but Curtis wont get a decent consultent.

I'm not much of a g fan but dumas has ruled this market for a long time. It does not matter what you think or I think. He does great radio and it shows in the ratings. CC also has a hit with Rush. Will it last? I do not know. But they are kicking ass.

My opinion is that Curtis should fire Harlend, get rid of that guy that is running the place. I don't remember his name. All management should go.

CC needs to fix river. Kiss should be doing better than it is. I do not have an idea on what to do with it.

Sorry if I was stressed sounding. I just want to have good discussoins and drop all the personal stuff. I was fired by CC a long time ago. I do not like the company but here they are doing well. Never worked for curtis but they are just sucking right now.

Peace out.
