96Rock seems to be transitioning from Active to Modern Rock

Taking a look at 96Rock's music log, it seems to me the station's playlist is distinctly different and tamer than it's been since signing on.

Artists such as Switchfoot, Better Than Ezra, U2, and Modest Mouse are suddenly being played.

Hard Rock artists such as Slipknot, Mudvayne, Korn, and Disturbed have seen their spins greatly reduced.

Is 96Rock conceding the hard rock battle to WEBN? Right now, the station's playlist reminds me a lot of DC101 in Washington.

That was exactly my guess, moving closer to what The Sound was doing. Hey, Sound has a solid 3-something share for awhile, better than 96 Rock has done.
Between 96.5 and 94.1's AAA/Hot AC-ish approach, Cumulus is trying to cover that former WSWD audience from both sides of the spectrum. Smart move, I think.
