96ROCK vs. WEBN

Looks like 'EBN retook the lead over 96ROCK in the June ratings, albeit barely (3.4 rating for 'EBN and a 3.3 for 96ROCK). 96ROCK had led the previous three or four months. Just wanted to see which station you preferred (if either). I personally listen to 96ROCK. They are a lot more current, and also play a lot of newer bands WEBN won't touch (same goes for WXEG in Dayton now, for that matter). Examples being Rise Against, New Medicine, Redlight King, Five Finger Death Punch, Adelita's Way, Dead Sara, Pop Evil. Also playing newer tracks from Green Day, Offspring, Gaslight Anthem, and even Jackyl.

Agreed Bill. I listen to 96Rock or Sirius (depending on which car I'm in). Don't touch WXEG or WEBN.

A lot of Dayton listeners are switching from WXEG to 96Rock. Problem is, that won't help (I presume) their ratings as Dayton listeners aren't counted.

Sad that WEBN has become what it currently is... one of the oldest rock stations in the country and it's been reduced to a 50 song playlist. I mean, how many times can one listen to "Freebird" or any Lynard Skynard/Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Hendrix, et. al. song OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER....

I'm sure that 96 Rock probably has about the same 50 song rotation kicking as well.

You would think that some of the jocks at both stations would be tired of listening/playing the same stuff OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again, but then again- when they work for a Corporate Radio station- I guess it really doesn't matter....

Don't listen to either one of them, at all now. But when I did listen to WEBN back in the day- they still played the same stuff they play now, and that was 20+ years ago when I used to listen.

Wow- I guess it truly can be said; the more things change, the more they stay the same- especially when it comes to radio.

96Rock has a repetitive playlist, but it's fresh, so I'll listen to it over EBN every time I'm in the area. EBN has gotten incredibly stale.

I like 96 Rock over the tired frog who needs to be boiled and put out of its misery. 96 Rock does need a Classic Alternative music show on the weekend.

Other than overnights where 'EBN uses PC (compare Toledo's WIOT to WEBN some time in the wee hours of the morning), I've noticed that in recent weeks WEBN has scaled back on vintage 70's & 80's titles. Instead of comprising 35% of the playlist, those songs now comprise about 20% of the playlist.

'EBN is still sluggish when it comes to adding new music, though. 96Rock generally jumps on new music a lot more quickly than EBN. And instead of rounding out its gold on-air categories with hard rock staples, 96Rock leans more alternative.

I'm guessing a sizable portion of 96Rock's current audience once listened to 94-9 The Sound, perhaps as P1s.

I seem to recall that WEBN once won the "Legendary Station" Marconi Award.
Kinda sad to see how they've let the station wither away.
