97.1 broadcasting KGSR

Wow, Sun Radio/KDRP moving away from Americana? What are they doing now?

Is KDRP (which is on 103.1 in Dripping Springs) running the same thing as 100.1? When I was in Austin in mid-July the two stations were running different programming durning a Saturday morning check in DS, where both signals are audible. However 100.1 was the same as parent station KTSN 1490, though there was around a one minute lag between the two.

I assume when 93-3 moves closer to Austin, the stations will change and one will drop ACL Radio.

Sun Radio doing Americana was best described as "10 in a row you don't know." If you're living off of donations, there's only so much you can raise off of that niche.

Is the 93.3 move into Austin to allow another station (or stations) to upgrade?

I believe it's just to give 93.3 a more solid signal in Austin proper and not necessarily to make room for other stations. However, it will be interesting to see if 93.3 in Dallas upgrades from the 50kW they are now. It has a hard time reaching the entire market.

I am surprised KGSR has lasted this long. The AAA format is oversaturated in the Austin market. At least the last time I lived there. You had 93.3, 98.9, 100.7, and 103.1 all AAA/Indie/Americana formated. I always thought KGSR would flip, but the question is when. The only time I heard KGSR was in Austin City Council offices. I guess that is their "elevator music" of the 21st Century.

I wish they would put Mega back on 93.3, the HD stream on KBPA 103.5 HD 2 is awful. Let KGSR die on 97.1 ala KZEP Overplayed Classic Rock 93.3 in San Antonio.

It might be able to push up to a C1 much like KMVK, however KMKT on 93.1 and KIKT on 93.5 would probably keep it from going full C. C0 might be doable if they go directional, the issue is KLIF-FM would only be able to expand to the south and not the north where the metroplex is growing. A move might not even be worth it as their northern coverage would remain largely unchanged.

Yea Place Mega Back On 93.3 Where It Belongs Why Is It On 103.5 HD2 So Horrible

Mega is Fine where it's at on 103.5 HD-2 sounds good and strong.

I would love to see Mega at least on an FM translator in Austin, a la 102-7 like it was for about three months in 2010 before it flipped to norteno.

Turns out you are likely correct as Emmis has registered the domain "www.star933austin.com" -
97.1 would likely keep the Austin City Limits Radio format, likely fed by an HD signal of 93.3 (or another Emmis-owned FM frequency).
(I think that 93.3-HD2 is currently unoccupied; I could be wrong.)

One question I do have is what becomes of the very tall tower in Bertram once 93.3 starts broadcasting from a tower in Austin?

Is anyone else up on the Bertram tower these days? 98.9 was for many years, but not since at least 2002.

Format speculations for Star93.3?

I suspect nothing will happen to the tower in Bertram. It's still usable and probably has other communication antennae on it.

With a name like Star, I would guess an AC format of some sort. Perhaps a soft AC, a format which is gaining in popularity these days.

I believe KGSR is the only radio facility on the Bertram tower, but the other major tenant is KAKW which is Univision’s O&O station in Austin (licensed to Killeen).

I Hope Star 93.3 Is Adult Contemporary I'm Tired Of AutoTune MayBe This Will Be SomeWhat Like Mix 93.3 KMXX Back In The Fun Era Of FM Radio

Streaming 97.1 “Austin City Limits Radio” & I noticed the playlist is now much improved (at least to my liking). Seems the haphazard, all over the road mix with the hip hop & pop is gone & KGSR is back to the previous AAA & indie pop format. Maybe Sun Radio, which seemed to have adjusted a bit towards KGSR’s AAA format was giving them some competition. Anyways, whatever the reason, it sounds 100% better than the unlistenable mess they were doing for the last few months.
