97.1 Drops "Free-FM" Name

Just went to their website and they now position themselves as "97.1 FM Talk".
http://www.971freefm.com/

There's a tiny "Free FM" logo on the top header, but they've phased it out of their imaging.

It was only a matter of time, IMHO.

Looks like it is over for the FREE (aka "We lost Howard Stern, but at least you don't have to pay $12.95 a month for a much worse Stern wannabe!") moniker.

97.1 changed their web address to www.971fmtalk.com as well. It still forwards to the 971freefm.com domain and still says FREE FM on the site because it seems like whoever is running the internet department at 97.1 is a total, lack of knowledge, slacker.

The proposed increase in music royalties for webcasters will put a huge drain on net radio to be even remotely profitable.
At least in the US.
The smart net stations will bolt the hell out out of the US grips (many have).

If something isn't done about the royalty situation with web radio, we're going to have some lost opportunities to many people. What good is increased royalty payments billed to webcasters going to be if it decreases the number of webcasters?

Established industries such as recording, broadcasting, and music publishing need to embrace new technology, not fight it. Everyone could benefit.
