97.1 FM country legends

Let's tie this back into 97.1 for a moment. KLVH is on an EMF station in Press-Kit, Arizona right now. Does it get moved to Cleveland, Texas?

  • Wow
Reactions: HTX
It’s not going to hurt anyone to try? Plus, listeners know how to stream music through their phones and not listen to am
Try classic country on 650? Sure, Audacy could do it. Salem could also try bringing back heavy metal on 1070 while we're at it. At least 1070 has a translator in Spring, so let the head banging begin!

They could also move KHLV. I think it’s interesting they also have a KLHV as well

Via AllAccess.com ratings page, cume results for KIKK-AM Feb.-July 2023:

Station___Format_Owner_Feb 23__Mar 23__Apr 23__May 23___Jun 23___Jul 23
KIKK-AM___N/T__Audacy__6,400____7,500___7,600____1,500____2,100____2,500

The station had less than a 0.1 share in each individual survey period.
Which is a clear indication that promotion of an illegal activity through the airwaves is unacceptable to the listening community.

A wise man once defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Time to change formats to something that actually attracts an audience.

There is a difference between "unacceptable" and "not of any interest". In this case, were we to believe the figures for a ground-clutter AM daytimer, what we know is that the subject matter is not compelling to most people.

In the PPM world, a 0.1 is a 0.4 is a 0.3 is a 0.2 is a 0.0. There is a margin of error that is greater than the actual shares.

Of course, in all 6 months the station had a rating of 0.0 and that is the more telling data.

But... the sponsors of such a station are not looking for "everyone". They are looking for high rollers; those are the people they fly to Vegas and comp rooms, shows, meals and whatever.

For all we know, this station is quite profitable.

They normally try to get calls with either the city’s first initial (H) combined with V, K, or W. They also have a KLVH in FL.

Then again, EMF never changed KHJK’s calls. Maybe the extra K was acceptable.

The station they’re buying in Greenville, SC, WGTK-FM, they’re walking right in to. Great calls for K-Love and I don’t think Salem is keeping the calls to transfer elsewhere. I’ll be shocked if those change. In Augusta, GA, they bought a station known as “The Eagle” from Aloha Station Trust with the WEKL calls. You better believe they kept those.

I'm amazed they don't have every possible combination of KL or AI at this point.

Freedom of speech isn't an absolute right. You can't yell "fire!" in a crowded theatre, if there is no fire present,
Do you really want to compare talking about gambling to yelling "fire" in a theater???
and the FCC has restricted certain obscene words and conduct from the public airwaves.
You know what they haven't restricted? Talking about statistical data in regards to sports and gambling.
On the other side of the argument, the Commission requires EAS alerts to be broadcast, and compels stations to provide a set numer of hours per week for children's and public affairs programming. These are all restrictions on freedom of speech.
Your speech is reasonably guaranteed by the 1st amendment. But the medium by which the speech is delivered isn't.

"With all due respect, and remember I'm saying with all due respect, that idea ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on." - Ricky Bobby.

Your argument is downright imbellic. It's just so egregiously flawed that I'm not sure if you're trolling or just arguing for the sake of arguing, to be perfectly honest.

With all due respect, KIKK's ratings are downright imbellic.

For a ground-clutter AM daytimer, it seems to cover a lot of geography. Of course, I'm of the opinion it's a supdfior ground radial system and ground conductitivity.

In that case, broad ratings are really meaningless. It's the niche they're progamming to that matters. For all we know, the only one listening is Matress Mack, who is not only a sports gambler but a high roller. Save the whales!

It’s a stupid 250 watt AM daytimer. Nobody is going to listen in 2023 and beyond. Brokered religion or turn in the license is its future.
And the law-abiding citizens of Houston.
Perhaps the law abiding citizens of Houston and the rest of Texas should be given the opportunity to vote on legalizing gambling in the state?

BTW check the license plates of cars at the casinos in SW Louisiana. Plenty of law abiding citizens of Texas there.

Has more to do with being at the low end of the AM band, where the long wavelengths provide good ground wave propagation. Field strength is an issue, as mentioned earlier, with the signal easily being smothered amongst urban density.

Would you ban Gallery Furniture ads on Houston radio and TV because Mattress Mack ”promotes” gambling?

This "stupid 250 watt daytimer" seems to cover a tremendous amount of real estate, far more than the 99-watt and 28-watt FM translators in Houston, even when they're operating at 2,000 watts as has been alleged.

We already have legalized casino gambling in Texas. There are two Native American casinos which are doing quite well. I would be opposed to organized crime from Las Vegas bringing in competition to harm their success. After the number of treaties the American Government has broken with the Native Americans, I think they should do the right thing and allow the tribes to provide an income for their reservations.

BTW, have you checked license plates of the cars at the "gentlemen's clubs" throughout Texas? Plenty of law-abiding citizens of Texas there.

I thought you just said it was a "stupid 250 wat daytimer?" Can't have it both ways, Froggy.

Matress Mack doesn't just promote gambling. He operates gambling, by promoting odds on sporting events and offering consideration on the outcome.
